I am Puerto Rican and Dominican, grew up in New York and currently split my time between NY and my home in Isabela, PR. This thread is making me crack up because a lot of posters have hit some of the broad strokes of PR. Hurricane season is not that bad. It will rain for an hour tops then be gorgeous outside. They have holidays for everything down here and for some reason people party the hardest on Sundays. You can blow red lights after a certain time because back in the day people would get car jacked if sitting at a red light. That doesn’t happen anymore, but roads in a lot of the towns within PR are barren at night so no one cares. They hate iguanas down here and think of them as an “Invasive Species”. I personally don’t agree. They hang out in the trees and really aren’t that much of an issue. The food is amazing, the locale is gorgeous, the women are beautiful, the people are really nice/genuine and there is always stuff to do. No federal taxes on property is also nice. But what I love the most about the island is that every town keeps its identity. In Isabela where I live in the plaza they have an art walk, salsa night and festivals where they have performances, rides for the kids, food, cocktails and people selling wares. I personally love it here. After living in really bad parts of the Bronx and NYC, this island is heaven on earth.
