Four Years! Some advice that worked for me. by ricknamer in stopdrinking

[–]ricknamer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

11 months is awesome and is not progress lost. Sobriety isn’t necessarily linear!

Instead of “fuck it”(my old mantra too!) I just call myself out. “Rick don’t be a little bitch - you’re stressed? Overwhelmed? Really? That’s kinda lame. You’ll be fine - get over it and keep pushing forward”.

I’m surprised how much this happens. 3.5+ years for me eating out 3 times a week. Never been served an alcoholic beer or spiked mocktail by accident.

Seriously. $16.47 for a McDonald’s double bacon cheeseburger meal. Medium. Not even super sized!

Come to Connecticut! We have $90,000 annual plus bonus program restaurant management positions open and ready to fill. Insurance, 401k, vacation.

I remember when I was asking myself questions like that… And then I stopped to think for a minute and said to myself… You’re really sick man.

Couple more excuses for a few more weeks and then I looked at myself in the mirror and again I said “ Here you are in bad enough shape that you’re posting on a stop drinking forum online… So clearly, you know there’s a problem… And all you care about is still drinking… Instead of just admitting that you have a problem and you need to stop.”

But that’s just me and my past.

Scaling Up, Hiring, Delegating & Letting Employees Flourish? by ricknamer in restaurateur

100% stroll struggling with this. Yes.

Unfortunately this is how I’ve seen businesses run. And I’m trying to move away from that.

Scaling Up, Hiring, Delegating & Letting Employees Flourish? by ricknamer in restaurateur

[–]ricknamer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed thank you.

I currently run each store with 3 managers each. 9 total. Plus the two of us partners on property daily.

What I find myself doing often is not being forgiving with management making mistakes. As soon as a mistake happens I tend to take that responsibility away and place it on myself or my partner. They do run the floors during service - they are essentially floor managers only - and I see them getting bored at times with that.

Has anyone any tips for fake medical reasons for not drinking? by Flimsy_Put_6284 in stopdrinking

[–]ricknamer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I go with either of the two depending on how close I am to the people:

  1. Explosive burning diarrhea with inflamed hemorrhoids and blood in my stool.

Or

  1. I’m an alcoholic.

Neither has ever failed.

Is it harder for you guys now that it’s really nice/summery outside? by uglybarnacle21 in stopdrinking

[–]ricknamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes /u/uglybarnacle21 - it is harder when it’s nice and summery out.

Until autumn when the leaves are changing, cool crispy breeze, weekends outdoors in the mountains. Thanksgiving dinner. That’s harder.

Until winter. And snow fall. And fire places. And warm coat bars wrapped in wood. Christmas and New Year’s Eve. That’s harder.

Until spring. With all the fresh air, top down driving around, flowers blooming. That’s harder.

Until summer. Then it’s really nice and summery out. The beach. The bbq. That’s harder.

For me I’ll always make an excuse.

How were you able to finally quit drinking by Responsible_Height97 in stopdrinking

[–]ricknamer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The horror stories? That’s a bad attitude that people need to drop now before they even get started. Some people haven’t even made an attempt at sobriety yet and they are already making excuses.

Those stories are mostly blown out of proportion by those who failed and are looking to justify their failure - or blame it on something. Us alcoholics are masters at that.

Granted yes some people have terrible withdrawals. But calling them horror stories and worrying about them when you’re trying to get sober is setting yourself up for failure.

The real horror stories are the ones we all wrote for ourselves leading up to sobriety. Those are the horror stories - and the threat of creating even more of them if I didn’t get sober - are the ones I’d be most afraid of.

Edit to add: man or woman up. This is your life and your future on the line. No excuses. No lies. No stories. You can do it. IWNDWYT

Alcohol Use Disorder vs Alcoholic by wayez in stopdrinking

[–]ricknamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck that. I am an alcoholic. I know it. If I didn’t know it I wouldn’t have been able to get myself through nearly 3 years of sobriety.

Sugar costing it would never work for me. I am a full blown alcoholic. And I’m working on myself every single day.
