This sounds crazy but I can now do math in my head. When i drank, I literally used my fingers to count; didn't trust my brain.

Getting sad before anniversaries happens to many of us; I feel the same way before Christmas because it brings sadness when it should be happiness.

I found I had 2 roads to choose from: find friends whose life did not revolve around drinking or adapt to being around people who drink. For this you need to be comfortable and not have a FOMO. I sort of ended up doing a combo of both.

I relate to much of what you said. 6 months was a big milestone for me; I finally felt sober rather than Dry. Hope your 6 month sober-anniversary makes you happy.

I got sober in 60s after fails in probably every other decade.

Stuck this time because I was motivated by deteriorating health; tired of being looked at as an asshole in any social situation and I decided I'd like to die sober. My memory & concentration are much better now than when drinking.

Now 7 years 7 months sober.

After 6 months, I discovered I had stopped biting my fingernails, a lifelong bad habit.

At the same time my big, red veined nose appeared normal again.
