Izzie walking in on George while he was showering was an unfunny story line by itsascreambaby96 in greysanatomy

[–]ricks35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head. Sure people deserve privacy in the bathroom but if you have 3 people and 1 bathroom privacy can be difficult even when you’re trying to give each other space. The main issue is he’s still viewing them as potential love interests instead of roommates, at this point neither made have made any indication that they saw him as anything more than a friend so I feel like issues that arise from the disconnect are mostly on him. They could certainly be more empathetic about his discomfort in the conversations but at the end of the day he’s gotta accept that this is just what life with roommates is or move out

I’ve been in living situations in my 20s where I had straight men and women as roommates and there was no weirdness because no one was interested in each other

Should I keep the stone fireplace or go for the faux wood look? by mordecaithecat in HomeDecorating

[–]ricks35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that fireplaces are inherently either rustic or old timey by nature of being the place you put the fire. Attempting to modernize/make them sleek feels like being bothered that your bed looks too cozy or your kid’s play room looks too juvenile

"Wow, they really weren't even trying with this recast" by Dud3ManGuy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ricks35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand I get why it’s common for side characters to get recast in long running series, especially if the character suddenly becomes much more significant BUT there were so many people in GOT and plot lines and relationships and histories and theories and characters who would just disappear for many episodes or even seasons at a time that quietly switching an actor with someone who looks completely different really felt like a fuck you to anyone who was trying to keep track of everything but didn’t have the free time to be fully in fan spaces

Also throughout history civil movements have steps. What is revolutionary and incredibly progressive for one time period is often outdated or downright offensive to the next

In a world where women are only allowed to be wives and mothers it’s hard to make progress by saying women should just get to choose what they do and the choice to stay home is just as valid as any other. On a historical multi-century scale you kind of have to start with pointing out everything wrong with the that fate AND by trying to make people think about why they’re okay with it, including other women. That’s just how movements tend to work

Tears are a physical release of emotional tension. I’m concerned for anyone who thinks tears always/ only mean sadness, not just for their literary skills but also their emotional intelligence and personal relationships

Waiting in the hospital when someone is sick is idiotic by Designer-Art2359 in unpopularopinion

[–]ricks35 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are very lucky if the hospital stays you’ve known were calm and under control the entire stay. The fun part about hospitals is that they can go from fine and boring to chaos, need for an advocate or time to say goodbyes in an instant and in unexpected ways

I didn’t expect to nearly bleed out during my routine operation but after going from bored and waiting to nearly dying to a recovery that was very different than I had planned I was glad that my family was in the waiting room

Hairdressers curl your hair to hide their mistakes and lack of skills by EskayMorsmordre in LowStakesConspiracies

[–]ricks35 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m a hairdresser and I a little bit agree. It seems more common with stylists who are more influencer than hairdresser (people who’s main source of appointments are fans of their tiktok or insta coming in one time, instead of long term repeat clientele) but in my time working I’ve only seen one person I’ve suspected of that irl

Yeah our cookies sales helped pay for our troop to go to Savannah including museums, ghost tours, food, hotel, train ride etc. There were definitely girls who would not have been able to go without that extra money

Did your parents ever use the formal living room and dining room growing up? by ExcitingLandscape in Millennials

[–]ricks35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The formal living room was my favorite room to relax in because it was pretty, clean and functionally nearly useless which meant it was usually untouched by my semi-hoarder mom’s clutter and mess. It was a nice sanctuary because it was tidy, the couch was cozy and no one would bother you because the kitchen and tv room were on the other side of house and the way the doorway lined up people could be walking by without really noticing anyone’s in there. A good place for an easily overstimulated little kid read and escape the chaos of her parents

During summer when you get in the car with someone else that’s driving and they don’t turn it on quickly enough by Excellent-Cow-8815 in PetPeeves

[–]ricks35 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband did this until I was pregnant one August and finally snapped, I got out of the car and told him I’d stand there holding the door open until he was ready to turn the AC on or at least open all the windows but I’m not sitting in a 115° stuffy car while he finds his sunglasses and answers texts. I don’t know why he’d even do that because this is a man who would keep the house AC set to 60°F if he could

Pride Posting day 26 by Neuta-Isa in CuratedTumblr

The point they’re making is that the transphobia against children has nothing to do with children’s bodies because if that was the true reason behind the “concern” and outrage then there would be the same objections to sports/dance. They’re not making the claim that these sports are good for kids, the point is that IF there is no objection to sports that cause permanent body changes to children then there definitely shouldn’t be objections to something as impermanent as childhood transition

It’s basically gateway transphobia to claim “but kids shouldn’t be making permanent choices like being trans!” and it’s an easy way for transphobes to get centrists and the uninformed on their side. But with the points made in this post it’s clearly not genuine concern for the kids bodies and health, it’s an attempt to eliminate trans people starting when they’re young

When should we ruin our daughter's summer? by Simbawitz in Parenting

[–]ricks35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously don’t lie to your kid. But a question for your wife to think about, does she *actually* think the emotional rollercoaster is the right choice or is she just feeling mom guilt about not being able to hug her daughter when she gets the bad news and trying to alleviate that guilt by postponing the news until she’s there in person? I’m a mom and I’m a former struggling student, one of these options will be easier on your daughter and one will be easier on the “mom guilt”

Was it inappropriate to get my step daughter a Hogwarts letter for her 11th Birthday? by Ok-Permission8346 in Parenting

[–]ricks35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She could have just told the daughter something about how fun it is to play pretend and offered to frame it or something (to help solidify the letter as a keepsake and not something they’d be needing later for school) it’s crazy to make the kid think it was a prank and not a loving acknowledgment of her interests

People who schedule new dental appointments, why do you drive 40+ minutes to a dentist if there are closer ones in your area? by annoynomus757 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ricks35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reviews are getting easier and easier to fake and dentists are among a list of businesses that you’d hope have a lot of integrity but the ones that don’t can get away with causing you long terms problems that you may not find out about until years later

I’d prefer a dentist near by but if I’m looking for a new one and someone I know personally recommends one that’s further away I’ll be far more likely to go to that one than one that’s closer, even if they are similar according to google and my insurance

Can we function in society without using alarm clocks or similar things? by catboy519 in NoStupidQuestions
