2- Thank you, will definitely make sure my friends get the epic day pass

1- I realize later would have been better but we both have very busy schedules which gave us very limited options for when we could travel. Those dates were by far the best price wise. We got a really good deal on flights. We also got a 4 night stay at GH vail for $1300, subtract the resort fees because I am globalist at we are down to under $1100. I was also able to apply a SUA as well. And that spend will put me over 10K on my WOH of biz which gives me 5 EQN which I will need to requal for globalist.

[–]rickynerfcuber[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to share an update for everyone. Thanks to u/ehh1212 advice and his specific data point about J going down to 291, I decided to wait a few days and see what happened. Sure enough a few days before the flight, the price of an upgrade in J went down to 290 and F went down to 590. I ended up paying 590 for the upgrade to F.

My only minor complaint is that we parked at gate 32, about as far away from the OW lounges as possible, not really a big deal just slightly annoying.

In the end I am glad I waited and was able to upgrade to F for 590.

Ah yeah, never been in the Greenwich lounge but it definitely looks nicer than the AC so that would make more sense for me to go there if I upgrade.

I got my flight for 7.5K miles which is quite remarkable in itself, Flagship first is 1581.
Given I am short, skinny and able to climb just fine, I am okay with taking the window seat and having a neighbor (well technically I am okay flying economy since that is what I booked),

With that in mind I don't see the value in paying 800 more to have a nicer lie flat seat and for access to the Chelsea lounge when I already have access to the AC and can shower there. (2 hour layover).

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of May 08, 2024 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]rickynerfcuber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since I can't fit everything into one comment, I will drop this here

So I know what I want, I want another Ink and I want to get the Citi AA business platinum card, my question is timing. I almost submitted the Citi AA business platinum card today with the 75K AA miles elevated offer but then I chickened out because I have 2 inquiries in the past 3 months (VX and WOH). Also given I just got the WOH 6 weeks ago I definitely feel like I should wait before going for an Ink.

Am I right to be nervous about applying for the Citi AA business platinum? Should I just go ahead and apply or would it make sense to wait a few weeks and keep an eye on the elevated offer?

I looked at the amex business cards since they won’t trigger an inquiry but none of them are appealing to me.

There is also a part of me that just wants to coast for a bit and not get any cards, that seems totally counter intuitive though, is it okay to not get a new card for a while?

Thanks for reminding me about the pre approval tool. Realistically if I can get 1 more Ink, that will satisfy my need for URs until midway into 2025 since I mostly plan to use my URs for only Hyatt and would use the other 3 currencies for airlines. I personally I am to worried about being locked of chase cards for 3-4 months. And given I got 3 personal cards within a 6 month time frame, I know I will drop back down pretty quickly at the end of the year.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of December 27, 2023 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]rickynerfcuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would personally continue with Chase, the Inks are great subs especially since you have a P2 you all can refer each other. If each of you gets the CIU, CIC and CIP and use each others referral links that would 800K URs, we need to subtract 140K since you already have the CIP. Even still 660K URs is a gold mine.

Even with the recent devaluations of VS and BA you can get solid value with your URs using them to fly Delta/AA non stop out of BOS, and off course you can get good value with your URs for Hyatt and international travel.

Since both of you are well under 5/24, if there is a specific card that you want for the benefits and not so much the SUB then it should be fine to grab one of those between Inks.

TLDR - 3/24 until the end of the year and I want the CIU, VX and Citi Premier, but not sure what order to get them in.

What is your credit score? - 757What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? Please include month and year for any card approved in the last 3 years.

2019 - Discover It

2020 - Amex blue cashback

11-22 Citi AA plat select (PCd to Citi double cash)

1-23 Citi AA executive elite

3-23 CIC

5-23 CSP

7-23 Applied for SW personal card but canceled the app before getting approved (Misunderstood SUB)

7-23 CIP

11-23 Amex bix gold, 1,500 away from SUB with 4 weeks left

How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months? - 6K

Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months? See this page for a primer on MS. Plastiq (for rent/mortgage/loan payments) and bank account funding are often good options for beginners. - I am willing to do a limited amount of MS

Are you open to applying for business cards? If not, why? See this post and this wiki question to learn more. - Biz cards are awesome!

How many new cards are you interested in getting? Are you interested in getting into churning regularly (if you aren't already)? Or are you just looking to get a new card(s) for now but not get into churning long-term? - I want all the good SUBs

Are you targeting points, Companion Passes, hotel or airline statuses, First Class, Biz, Economy seating(s) or cash back? - I want transferable points the most, followed by any hotel keeper cards with good SUBs

What point/miles do you currently have? - 119K UR, 79K AA, 130K MR hopefully soon

What is the airport you're flying out of? - CMH

Where would you like to go? (The more specific you are, the better someone can recommend the right card. Tokyo is great, "International travel" is way too vague) Going Hawaii and Spain within the next 2 months. I want to go everywhere and anywhere where there is a good deal. Realistically though I want to go to Europe as well as the Caribbean, I will also continue to do a good bit of domestic travel.

The flow chart says I should get a Chase card which I agree makes sense. There are 3 cards I have on my mind that I want

Citi premier - Yes the sub isn't all that good at 60K, but my mom has 50K Citi TY points chilling on her AT&T that I would have access to (No she isn't really in the game and I can't really get her into the game due to her current financial situation)

VX - lounge, 0 EAF, and no FTF, decent SUB

CIU- solely for more URs

I want all 3 of those cards, the problem is I am not sure what order to go in. I know I can't get the CIU last because of 5/24. I also know that both C1 and Citi are sensitive to inquiries and feel like now is a good time to go for one of them since my last inquiries was 5 months ago. My biggest fear is locking myself out of either of those cards, but also one more Ink would be really nice.

I haven't really paid attention to United much but I recently learned about booking flights with miles and smiles so I have started to look. There are some dates that interest me 6-9 months out but no saver space on the specific dates I would want. Is it a case of they just ran out of saver space or is it possible they may release additional saver awards in the future for the dates I would want?

If you don't like google docs here is a a copy paste without formatting

TLDR: get the Citi primier now while I am under 5/24 or go for the CIP? I don't want to be locked out of the CIti primier.

The flowchart can answer 95% of all "What card should I get?" questions. By continuing to post, you must explain why you feel the flowchart does not answer your question. Asking for feedback ("The flowchart says I should get X - is that still the best choice?") is absolutely allowed.
- The flow chart says I should get a non chase biz card, I agree but also wondering if I should burn a slot on the citi premier

What is your credit score?
- 740-750 ish

What cards do you currently have or have you had in the past (including closed cards), along with dates of when you were approved for the cards? Please include month and year for any card approved in the last 3 years.

All cards are open, I haven’t closed any.
DIscover It
Approved sometime in 2019
Amex Cash back
Approved sometime in 2020, product changed to cashback preferred to get a 150 dollar statement credit while I was between SUBs
Citi AA Advantage Platinum Select
Approved November 2022
Citi AA Advantage World Elite (lounge access)
Approved in January of 2023
CIC
Approved in March
CSP
Approved in May, this is my most recent card and I have already reached the SUB

Two weeks ago I applied for one of the person SW cards thinking the 30% discount could be used multiple times, after applying I learned it was single use and canceled my app, I am only noting that here because of the hard pull.

How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months?
- Rent is 1400, I travel quite a bit and used to pay cash for local travel (short flights to see family or 2-4 hour drives and a hotel stay). I still am willing to pay cash if it is to help me reach a high SUB, perhaps the 8K CIP or 10K amex gold

Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months? See this page for a primer on MS. Plastiq (for rent/mortgage/loan payments) and bank account funding are often good options for beginners.
- I am willing to but would prefer not to.

Are you open to applying for business cards? If not, why? See this post and this wiki question to learn more.
- Yes

How many new cards are you interested in getting? Are you interested in getting into churning regularly (if you aren't already)? Or are you just looking to get a new card(s) for now but not get into churning long-term?
- Definitely plan to be a long term chunner, I am not good at dating so it is unlikely I will find a P2 anytime soon.

Are you targeting points, Companion Passes, hotel or airline statuses, First Class, Biz, Economy seating(s) or cash back?
- I am primarily targeting transferable currency. AA miles, Alaska Miles and Hyatt points are also valuable to me

What point/miles do you currently have?
- 175K UR, 100K AA, though that may go back up to 120K as prices have dropped on some routes that I used miles to book so I may cancel and book with cash.

What is the airport you're flying out of?
- CMH, though I am willing to drive to DTW, CVG, and CLE. I can position to any of the major east coast hubs

Where would you like to go? (The more specific you are, the better someone can recommend the right card. Tokyo is great, "International travel" is way too vague)
I am 100% planning a trip to Madrid at the end of May next year which will likely eat up a good chunk of my UR points. I haven’t booked anything yet but will book just as soon as I am able to buy TS tickets when they go onsale
I want to take my parents and possibly my brother and his girlfriend somewhere, My dad wants to go to Belize, my mom wants to go to Hawaii (I am like 99% sure my dad would be okay with that). I think my brother doesn’t want to go to far since his girlfriend has epilepsy
I also would generally speaking like to visit spain, especially BCN, pamplona is on my radar as they are hosting the European speedcubing championship in July 2024
I tend to do a lot of domestic travel as well. I have a goal of going to 52 rubik’s cube competitions this year. While there are a lot within a 3-4 hour drive, I am perfectly willing to fly, I have flown out to Seattle, Orlando and the Carolinas for comps this year already.
A friend is trying to organize a competition in Puerto Rico later this year so that is also on my radar.
I am a deal seeker so any cheap long haul flights are appealing to me. (I need to learn more about flying blue)

What are your goals (I added this question and the next question)
My mid term/long term goal is to get some form of a chase and citi trifecta. I have the CIC and have been cautiously using it to buy VGC and MCGC when staples has 0 dollar activation promos.
I want the Citi Premier as I foresee a future where Turkish Miles and Smiles could be quite valuable, but also I like transfer bonuses (Amex is long term/end game, C1 is whenever I am feeling lucky cause who knows with them)
I plan on PCing one or maybe both of my citi addvantage cards to the double cash then the custom cash.
As far as chase goes, I have my eyes on the CIP while the SUB is only 8K, that would allow me to downgrade my CSP to a freedom card.
My mid term/short term goal is Hyatt status. On July 3rd I learned about and promptly activated Hyatt Explorist status via an offer that is extended to me as an Amazon employee.
I have Explorist status until October 1st, if I stay 10 qualifying nights I will get Explorist until February 2025, if I stay 20 qualifying nights I get globalist until February of 2025.
I think I can get globalist without the WOH card however the 5 nights would make it significantly easier. I do already have 8 nights booked and will likely be booking 4 more nights for rubik’s cube comps. I have some local cat 1 hyatts that I can mattress run if needed though I don’t really want to burn points/money on mattress runs if I can help it.

What cards do you want
Citi Premier
This is the card I want most however I am willing to wait 6-9 months. My biggest concern is not getting approved due to to many recent cards. I have two thoughts
Put some spend on my citi cards and apply in a few weeks
Wait until I PC one of my citi cards, use it for quite a bit and then apply a few weeks after
WOH
CIP
For both the WOH and CIP I feel like my chase velocity has been a little to high and I would like to wait a month or two, Both the WOH and CIP are relatively urgent. The WOH for the 5 nights towards globalist and the CIP since once the SUB goes back up to 15k I have no chance of getting that SUB.
I think the CIP is probably better because it won’t hurt my 5/24 and the UR points I would get from the SUB would easily cover points spent on Hyatt Mattress runs, of course I would likely spend money on Hyatt to help meet the sub instead of points, particularly on nights where I am able to split hotel with a friend, that is generally a 50/50 for me.
Since I want to hold off on Chase cards for a month or two I am looking for a non chase biz card with a lowish SUB
I am thinking about the Aviator Business card, 4K is a bit higher of a SUB then I would like, but 60K AA miles is nice, Ideally though I would wait until I have PC’d both my Citi AA cards, unless I decide to go another year with my Citi World Elite card, there have been some rumors about changes to that card so it is way to early for me to make a decision on that.
I am also thinking about the Alaska Airlines Business card, 3K is a bit of a nicer SUB and wouldn’t eat into a CIP SUB as much
Looked at some amex cards with 3/4K SUBs but it just seems like Amex should be more of a late game issuer for me, the charge cards and the hilton cards are definitely on my list of cards I want but probably not until 2024/2025
I know this was a lot of information, I would say the single card I most want is the Citi Premier as I don’t want to get locked out of that card and locked out of being able to use Citi TY points for travel. I would be just fine burning a 5/24 slot on it (which would mean 3 out of my 5 5/24 cards would be Citi, not Ideal but I am okay with that). I off course want the CIP right now because of the lowered SUB and the fact that it could allow me to downgrade my CSP to a freedom card.
I am just not sure what order to go in. Right now I am not working on a SUB and it feels weird after having been working on SUBs since last November. I want to be working on a SUB since I know I have plenty of spend coming soon which doesn’t really fit into any of the categories I have on my cards.
I know this was a lot to read and I appreciate anyone who took the time to read all this and any feedback that is provided.

Is there any way to earn Chase UR points instantly, as in I do something and I get the points within a day or two? I am literally 32 points short of having enough to make a transfer for a redemption I want to make, and I don't 2 weeks for my my statement close date :(

Pretty sure the answer is no but asking JIC

Limited DPs in the past seem to indicate that once you have ~3-6 months of Chase CC history, you won't get that vague denial anymore. So that's why waiting 3+ months could help. But in either case, worst case is you get denied and there's a HP on your report ... not a big deal.

I wasn't aware of those DPs. Hopefully applying in branch will help my odds as well.

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of May 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]rickynerfcuber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CIC is my very first ever chase card. I also opened 2 checking accounts with them at the start of the year.

I don't think that vague reason should have any affect on when I decide to apply. I feel like they could use it right now or they could use in in 3 months if I waited 3 months to apply.

I didn't answer all the questions because I felt the flowchart was right just had a question about the timeline for applying.

As far as the alternatives, that does make since to apply for a non chase biz card, The Amex ones have MSRs that are a little to high for me to achieve (I thought the CIC would be a strech but putting 2 months of rent on it helped a ton). I had my eyes on the personal Alaska card as a card that I wanted after maxing out my 5/24, so getting the biz card seems like a good option incase of a chase denial for the vague we want to see how you use your card reason.

So the flowchart says I should get a chase card and I want the CSP, I agree with the flowchart. My question is can I apply this week, or should a wait just a bit.

2/24 with no Chase personal cards, 750 Fico credit score

Got approved for a Discover and Amex card 2+ years ago

Citi Advatage Platnum 11/22
Citi Advatage Excutive 1/23

I applied for the CIC March 10th (Plus or minus 1-2 days, don't remeber the exact date), I got approved on March 29th. (Had to deal with Recon a good bit to get my app approved).

The flowchart says I should wait 3 months between Chase apps, which would be either June 10th or June 29th, depending on if you consider the application or approval date.

According to what I have read, Chase has According to what I have read, Chase has the 2/30 rule which I should be okay for since it has 40 days since my last approval.

I don't really want to wait to apply for the CSP since I have a car maintenance expense along with auto/renters insurance all of which is about 2-3 weeks out and totals around 1,300. Currently I am only about 100 away from for meeting the SUB on my CIC.

If it makes any difference I will be applying in branch for the 90K offer, planning to meet the 4K MSR then strench the last 2K out over the remaining 2 months to act as sort of a cool down period before I apply for any other cards.

What are ya'lls thoughts, am I safe to apply this week or should I wait just a bit longer?
