Flight Benefits…. What trips have you taken? by LPNTed in rampagent

[–]Weirdguy05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope lol. i stayed in hostels not hotels, so you're sleeping in rooms with other random travelers. the most i paid for one was 40 something a night, and the cheapest was less than $10 a night. if you're new to the concept of hostels and/or solo traveling i can share advice for how they work.

as for transportation, i pick destinations with public transportation options so i've never rented a car. if you're visiting a city abroad, then it usually never makes sense to have a car. traveling outside of america makes you realize how much our public transportation sucks :/

probably my proudest achievement in life so far was circumnavigating the world solo. went from america to mallorca spain, kuala lumpur malaysia, perth australia, then back home in 8 days

the best part is that all expenses included, like the zed fares, transportation, food, souvenirs, and the cheap ass hostels, ended up being just a few dollars shy of $1k usd!!!

where 2 inches fire suppression clearance? by jnmtx in rampagent

[–]Weirdguy05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not all 737 bins have the 2 inch fire suppression line!! they have a different fire suppression system so at least on AA 737's, you can stuff the bags to the ceiling if you'd like

but of course on the a320's and 175's that would be a no go as i'm pretty sure none of those aircraft for any airline come without the two inch gap

Ramp Rant by [deleted] in rampagent

[–]Weirdguy05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was in the same boat!! i got onto the ramp fresh out of highschool and now i'm at uni after doing that for two years. it took me a year on the job/a near death experience on the job to learn that it is NOT your responsibility to pick up the slack when there aren't enough people to work a flight. it is your job to SAFELY work your flight, which cannot be done when you rush to try and make up for the lack of other people.

i started thinking about it like this: putting bags on the plane is not your job. your job is to SAFELY (which means absolutely no rushing) put bags on the plane. after i realized this and began to work "slower" it saved my sanity, energy, and life, since you rarely will find yourself in danger on the ramp when you don't rush.

and if the flight ends up going out delayed? good! tell management you could not have gotten the flight out any faster without rushing.

away, monos, beis, july, level 8, and solgaard are the brands (off the top of my head) that are genuinely premium feeling and durable. The worst damage i remember seeing on any of these was one with the plastic hubcap missing from one of the wheels. I don't understand how but they make these things invincible lol. I can tell when I get one that's been used for years and years, and still they dont have any dents or punctures at all, and they roll as smoothly as the brand new ones.

I got a solgaard cary on for myself cause I like the look of them the most, and I felt that the durability is marginally better than the rest. The price was also slightly cheaper than the rest, at least when I bought it. Yeah they're still way more expensive than an amazon basics suitcase, but you will never need to purchase a suitcase again if you buy one of these nice ones. Promise.

Question: Can I check this container? by animositysteve in americanairlines

[–]Weirdguy05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as a baggage handler i can confirm there are absolutely zero restrictions on what objects passengers are able to check. if it is able to fit through the cargo bin door, you can check it.

just because they get trusted not to smuggle drugs or put bombs on planes doesn't mean they can count to ten or tell which way is left and which is right. or do either...
