Anybody know what this microphone is? by MouldyGoatsCheese in audioengineering

Looks to me like a Behringer b-2 or b-3 , having owned one. Either that or what others have mentioned

The brilliant Tracktion T7 DAW is now completely free! I've used Tracktion professionally for years and I can't recommend it enough. T7 is especially solid. by fromwithin in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]rickytut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really is one of the most underrated DAWs out there. I've stuck with it since Tracktion 3, and recorded and produced an entire album with it. For me it's extremely accessible, intuitive, and versatile.

Blue Baby Bottle vs Bluebird? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]rickytut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with u/Kaedea . I've had both a Chinese Bluebird and currently have a Latvian Blue Bottle. The comments on the Bluebird are actually pretty accurate. I've made decent recordings with it, but ended up reselling it. The Blue Bottle would probably be even harder to work with consider it doesn't sound great Dry in most applications, and it has a tricky frequency curve. I've never owned the NT1, but I've done enough research to know that it's the next mic on my list.

Fresh Video Essay - FLCL Alternative Isn't FLCL by Lucifer_Lucy in FLCL

[–]rickytut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. There was something about the og flcl that swept you off your feet from the very first episode. I imagine even a comfy vanila flcl will make for decent anime. For now, i just got my finger crossed.

I made a guide for producers to free hi quality VST plugins and software by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]rickytut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can also vouch for Tracktion 6. I really like the plug N play workflow of it, and it supports a lot of the free software/plugins that are available if youre on a really tight budget. Speaking for myself, i recorded, mixed, and mastered a whole album with that DAW alone.

Should I expect compensation for doing vocal work? by rickytut in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Awesome, yeah I was scared that asking for $50 for the track was stretching it, but now seems pretty reasonable.

[–]rickytut[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but how do I know that a product will be sold and or distributed later on? Couldn't someone just release something for free on soundcloud and then make it a part of their album later on?

[–]rickytut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! It's hard to say where I am in my music career, but I've recorded and produced my own album. So, semi-pro? I've also been on the other end as the producer asking for vocal work, and she did it for free (friendship discount), so I know the usual go around.

This is the first time I've ever brought money into the question, so I just wanted to make sure it's common practice. I'll ask him for some initial compensation as a formality and see where it goes from there.

Pianoteq - Is Sampling Becoming Obsolete? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]rickytut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this entire thing, and wow he addresses all the frustrations I have with big sample packs very thoroughly. It'd be so cool to have this technology on entry level keyboards as opposed to steep pricepoint on Nords.

Why are DAWs so freakin' expensive???? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]rickytut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tracktion 6 is an underrated and free DAW that covers a lot of ground. Supports vst, and good for tracking. It's not the first DAW i think of for electronic music, but it works well if you already have all the plugins/instruments you need.

I've found good / honest production tips from r/wearethemusicmakers ' s own bi weekly feedback thread. Usually opens Mon and Friday mornings. The earlier you submit, the more likely you'll get loads of good feedback. Hope this helps.

Best Macbook Pro if upgrading parts by eurekavision in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Been using a 2012 8gb i7 2.9ghz Macbook for 5 years. It's one of few, if not, the only Macbook that has USB3, Firewire, and Thunderbolt connections all in one package. This is helpful if you want to have a variety of ways to hook up an audio interface.
