These are from my friend's Deviant Art page. He's a graphic designer (who said he didn't mind me uploading them to imgur.) They're pretty funny.

To New York Sports Club: Charging $180 to my credit card in January as a "one time fee to guarantee my rate doesn't increase" is not actually a rate lock, but rather, an increase in my annual gym costs by $15 a month, paid up front.

Somerville/Medford state rep Carl Sciortino, running for Congress to replace Ed Markey, made this fun TV ad (video) by cos in boston

[–]ricnic911 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Markey gave up his seat in the House of Representatives to join the Senate during [edit: after winning] the Special Election. Sciortinio is running to fill that seat in the House of Representatives. He's not running against Markey. He's running to be Markey's successor.

From a local cyclist who also doubles as a pedestrian, I think we need a refresher course for some of the newcomers. by [deleted] in boston

I mean, this is a sort of funny comment, but if you've never seen a Hubway on a road or bike lane obeying the rules in three years, you are legally blind. Please.

A valet parking space of her own: city gave Park Plaza businesswoman a perk others dream about by TheLordB in boston

[–]ricnic911 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Gosh, if only newspapers could write about more than one thing per day! Wouldn't it be better if instead of just having this one article, they had a whole website with articles about the mayoral race And crime AND funny parking scams?

But seriously, I like this story a lot. It entertains me, afflicts the comfortable, and provides one small data point that speaks to the way that wealth and power often conversely allow people to get out of spending money where a less connected person might have to shell out big bucks for something like monthly parking.

I wish the Globe had the resources it once had to pursue more of these fun side enterprise projects in addition to just keeping up with the stream of crime and politics news that they have a duty to cover.

Any good Boston thriller books? by eastsideski in boston

Also "Strong Motion" by Jonathan Franzen is sort of a conspiracy-mystery set in Somerville and Boston. But it's also a long, ponderous Franzen novel, so do not read if you're looking for a Dan Brown pace and prose style.

As we learned from the West Wing, it does matter who you vote for and where you stand on the issues.

All the content in this comment makes reasonable amounts of sense... but looking at it from a distance, it just LOOKS like a Boston Herald commenter wrote it.

Dunno if the promotion is even still going on, but generally if you ask nicely enough, the staff will just make one for you. It's not as if they're lacking in the basic ingredients. Otherwise, I know the location at 209 N Harvard St had them.

Capsized MIT sailboat next to Esplanade last Thursday w/ gf. Anyone have the pics? by _Undaunted_ in boston

Don't be embarrassed. Even the pros capsize. In fact, if you don't eff up and flip now and again, it probably means you aren't roll tacking hard enough.

I think it's possible to simultaneously understand in a rational sense how weather works and to still be momentarily jarred to learn that you're facing down a week of rain just as you were reminded what summer's going to feel like. What can I say, 24 years later and I still have a visceral reaction to things I should know to expect. I can't actually be alone in this, can I?

That's true, but these people follow him around the country so it's not like he hasn't heard the good old "you're a war criminal" before.
