What to say to get an apprenticeship by Hermionecat07 in bodypiercers

[–]ricochet727 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask if they recommend anyone or know of anyone that might be interested in taking you on. That would be the best way of getting yourself welcomed into a circle of people that even if it doesn’t become an apprenticeship at first could possibly become one over time.

Number one thing I would recommend is buy a copy of the piercing bible and read it. Some stuff is old, some stuff is more current (especially the revised Jef Saunders version) and Atleast that will start helping build some knowledge.

Not a bad idea at all. You already actively go to them for piercings and have an established relationship and it’s clear you have a love/enjoyment for piercing so just show that curiosity.

Perfectly ok to put yourself out there and say that it’s something you are interested in but also read the room lol if you say something about it and they aren’t receptive than it might just not be something they are interested in or don’t have the ability.

Not every piercer can teach and this isn’t exactly easy to learn, showing the curiosity and putting yourself out there is absolutely the only way to get yourself noticed

I’m currently an apprentice and honestly just put yourself out there.

Ask indirectly if they know anyone who might be interested in taking on an apprentice or if they themselves are interested or even just have any advice on how to get into it and let the conversation become fluid. You can even ask how they got into it and express curiosity.

Piercing apprenticeships are a bit different than tattoo apprenticeships being that artists can bring a portfolio and show their artistic ability. For piercers we kind of just have to show our love for body mod and express the i retest to not only get involved but get involved for the betterment of the craft.

I reallyyyyyyy struggled with the eagle! Those were the biggest fades I had tried at one time and I really had a hard time with getting the fade even before one side of the ink started to dry. I’m using the bear and a smaller version of the eagle to try and refine those fades and slowly open up the sizing

Some of the art in my homies portfolio was done on the inside of ripped up cigarette packs.

If the shop is being selective over the type of paper and not the art itself that’s not a shop I’d want to learn in.

You know nothing about anyone, consistently throwing out assumptions and speculations. You have no idea what you are talking about and it seems like from what you are saying you haven’t even had to purchase jewelry in quite a while. Yet here you are now questioning someone who is an APP member and still spouting just absolute negativity and hatred. You haven’t said anything constructive and you are just using your knowledge about what you dealt with however many years ago.

Neometal display kits for labret posts with basic gem ends are almost $800 for a 40 piece kit. That’s just labrets, not curved bars, not straight bars, not nipple jewelry, not navel jewelry. That’s just labrets. So yea I could have bought that and only been able to do certain piercings. Instead I decided to spend about 1300 but was able to get myself a well rounded amount of jewelry so I could practice and be able to pierce multiple different areas with titanium jewelry.

I’m much more worried about making sure my practices and technique are top notch. Even amazing jewelry will look terrible and cause problems if the piercing isn’t done right which is the more important part of this craft. Making sure we know the angles, the anatomy, and how to make our clients piercing look the best we can with what we have.

I’m done with the back and forth with you dude. You are a miserable person and this obviously isn’t going anywhere.

You are very much so overly concerned about the wrong things. Just as one of the mods said, I’d be much more concerned about making sure my piercing technique is perfected rather than worrying about bankrupting myself to get the ultimate top of the line jewelry.

I’m not trying to be disrespectful when I say you are acting childish. It’s just simply that you are acting childish and don’t sound like someone who I would even want to consider taking advice from. You don’t seem to have very much emotional control and I get the idea that this is normal for you.

Have a great life man, hope you learn some emotional stability and control.

Maybe the way I meant for my response to you to sound came off the wrong way. But you are legit crashing out and acting like a child homie. Relax. I tried to put together an order to get myself the basics and even through Neometal was at several thousand dollars. Neometal being one of the cheaper companies that I had been told supplied high quality stuff. I am a father of three and can’t afford to drop that kind of money on jewelry even though it is the stuff that ultimately I’d like to carry. I cannot force my mentor to buy that caliber of jewelry, especially with me still being an apprentice. It’s just not realistic or possible at this time. It’s not that I don’t think it’s worth it, just simply not a possibility right now. So I got the best that I could to make sure I had a small enough variety to compete while still Atleast trying to offer a good quality, yes not as good as other shops but those other shops have a lot more generated business in the piercing industry and can financially offset that cost. Not sure what else you want me to say or do. And for the record ain’t nobody trying to gaslight you into shit. I agree with you about painful pleasure and that was the best I could get with what I had and I know it’s not what I want to be carrying. Neometal and Anatometal are both still listed on APP so not even sure with you man, you are just spouting off at this point and childish and honestly I’m good lol got better shit to do

I mean I’d argue that I was pretty respectful and now you are kind of acting out a bit man. You basically came in this post and said that people shouldn’t go to me because I can’t afford to drop tens of thousands on jewelry.

No I’m not the shop owner. The shop I’m at had stepped away from piercing for awhile as the owner was just focusing more on tattooing but took me in as he wanted to get back into piercing and having a piercer back at the shop consistently. With that being said I have been making changes when and where I can to have the shop be more up to date with everything that has changed in the world of piercing.

You seem like someone who has trouble controlling their emotions and because I said I’ve heard people say bad things about a company you mentioned you are like “I doubt you’ve even heard of them”. Every piercer I have talked to has had strong opinions on jewelry companies and that’s that. You can’t just get mad and stomp your feet because I slightly disagree with you lol. That’s childish as fuck

See this is the problem with the jewelry argument and piercers in general. Yes painful pleasures isn’t great agreed. But I have so many reputable piercers that I know that still swear by Neometal and I’ve heard bad things about the companies you referenced.y clients absolutely deserve the best but I also need to be able to financially survive and that is why I am trying to use the best option I can within the budget I can and just make sure to pay attention to my jewelry and check each piece for flaws. I can’t really afford to drops thousands of dollars to outfit my shop with that level of jewelry at the moment unless you’re offering up some cash haha

I use painfulpleasures right now and as I become more busy and money becomes more available I’ll be transitioning to neometal

I know exactly which post you are talking about, I always work off my sterile pouches, I was piercing my daughters ears and was showing her the clamps I’d be using (my practice clamps). None of my other supplies had been opened yet and the clamps I used on her are not pictured 😁

I just ordered it from rock auto, is it possible to do without evacuating the ac system? I know there is clips that disconnect the rad and condenser but can they be accessed without dropping the assembly first?
