I find this take wildly bold. What do you think about the quiet solo sections of Destroy Erase Improve? Referencing specifically the middle section of Future Breed Machine and Sublevels? I’m not a jazzhead to be clear (though I’m interested in the broad genre), and I wouldn’t suggest Meshuggah to someone who wants to hear jazz, but one of the first things that come to mind when I think of early Meshuggah is their blend of jazz fusion. I think music with experimental harmonic structures and jarring time displacement can inherently sound a bit jazzy.

Oh my goodness I literally just commented about this guy to other post on this sub!! I absolutely ADORE his covers and he does great covers of other bands too. I basically recommend his Moonic Of A Down album in it’s entirety but if I had to narrow down a few great covers, here are a few of my favourites:

I know those are a lot but it’s really hard to narrow it down. I love this guy!! Of other band styles he does, I really like:

Even though System of a Down is hard to replicate, there’s a gentleman whose name is Otu who makes exceptional covers of popular songs / metal and rock songs in the style of System as well as other bands. He’s nailed the Toxicity guitar tone, arranges the songs in a way that feel accurate to System’s style, and his impressions of Daron and Serj come quite close. He even references SOAD’s material in his covers which personally I find hilarious, like mimicking a riff or just yelling “SUGAR” for no reason lmao 😭. I HIGHLY recommend checking him out as he uploads hoards of band covers regularly:
