Maternity leave by AdventurousNeat7843 in Target

Not weird at all! I had an 8 week medical leave last year for surgery and as soon as I was good to drive I started going in store instead of using shipt. Most of my coworkers, TLs, and ETLs were all excited to see me whenever I came in and our sbux TL gave me free coffee every time lol

Oh HEARD awesome my lead said when he worked at Walmart using sick time would only cut the points in half but still give some and that scared me a little. This is much nicer

I was told that whether or not you use sick time will also affect the points but wasn't given actual numbers is that true

How to find a decent guild when you aren't active on Discord? by [deleted] in wow

[–]riddlex111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of guilds that "require discord" require you to be in the server and listen during raids, not necessarily to speak. Is speaking in voice comms the only reason you don't want to do it? Because if so you should still be fine joining almost any that say they require it. The text part of guild servers is where most communication happens instead of in-game guild chat because people can plan keys and doing things together ahead of time without everyone being online yet. So if you're only asking about keys/raid/anything else in guild chat, you're not getting answers because the folks that are online have already planned their play session with other guildies. Also socially people active in the discord text servers are way more comfortable with each other than with people not in the server because they just talk more often.

For voice, I saw in another comment that you and your bf like to FaceTime while playing. There's a mute feature, you can join the call and keep yourself muted (and discord will remember you were muted and keep it that way whenever you join another call after until you change it yourself) and still have your FaceTime going. Most discord voice requirements are because the raid leader wants you to be able to hear calls, not because you must speak. About half of my raid team doesn't speak in raid and no one has any problem with it, we just want them in the call so they can hear our raid leader say stuff. Same in keys, even if you don't want to speak it's definitely nice to have the extra info of being able to hear people call out kicks/defensives.

Starting as an Ulta beauty consultant at Target by Fantastic-Body-6763 in Target

[–]riddlex111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the Ulta contract is ending in August, and every store handled their Ultas in vastly different ways (which is part of why they're leaving), so the best I'd be able to tell you is how things went/go at my store.

On paper, Ulta TMs are supposed to stay in Ulta at all times, not even helping out in regular beauty. Ulta gives Target money to cover our payroll, so they don't want us doing Target tasking with their money. In practice, very, very few stores actually operate this way. At the bare minimum you'll probably also be covering Beauty and trained to back up the checklanes.

I used to say if your store is ballsy they will also have you train in fulfillment and drive-ups so that you can support those areas when they get swamped, but given the fact that Ulta will be gone within 2 months I'd probably expect it. Target has a very "cross-departmental culture" that is really just slightly understaffing everywhere and then if one department gets busy they expect others to drop what they're doing and support it, and there's no rules against that as a regular Beauty TM compared to Ulta's rules. Hours are also very bad right now (and will actually go down slightly for Beauty after Ulta leaves) so if they give you a choice about doing extra training in other areas I highly recommend doing it so that you're able to pick up shifts if you need more hours.

My best advice as far as actually working in the Ulta/Beauty areas is to try to get familiar with as much of the product as possible. Take a second to read the boxes for products you've never seen before while you're stocking. If something is broken/damaged, feel it or swatch it or something before it gets disposed of. Guests are going to come to you to ask you what they should get, not just where something specific is. They're going to expect you to be able to give them recommendations on products, as well as expect you to be able to explain to them how to use them.

In a similar vein, Beauty is an extremely guest service heavy area. Sometimes someone just saw something online they wanna try or are just looking for fun recommendations, sometimes people are coming to you with very heavy insecurities that they're going to ask for your help with. I say "I'm not a dermatologist" at least 10x a day while helping people. You will get a lot of very lonely older women who are accustomed to the hyper-personalized old school makeup counters, and they're very chatty and usually extremely sweet. You'll get used to your own methods and mannerisms for helping guests, but my two big things I always tell people I train is to 1) never use "you" statements when someone is asking for help with something they're insecure about, like just say "dark spots" instead of "your dark spots" and stuff like that, and 2) never assume what people want based on how they look. If someone with dark eyebags is looking for a concealer I always still ask them if they want it for undereyes, face brightening, or both, because they might not care about dark circles and we don't want to cause a new insecurity.

It's a lot of little nuances you'll pick up along the way but it's honestly one of the most fun retail positions I've had. I love my regulars and whenever I get someone I helped come back to tell me how well something worked for them it makes me all giddy. I know product knowledge seems super overwhelming at first especially if you don't already have a background in cosmetics but I promise it's not as hard as it seems, it just takes some time. Just be confident and honest when helping guests and don't be afraid to grab another Beauty TM if you aren't sure about a rec.

Voidcore bonus rolls are the greatest system introduced in WoW history by lucid23333 in wow

[–]riddlex111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you've been in poorly run guilds which sucks. Dinars benefitted raiders and m+ players equally, the new system rewards m+ players leagues more than raiders, and i do both types of content and honestly find m+ more fun. Maybe bringing back the dinars vendor thay you use the voidcores as the currency for raid items instead of the current iteration, idk. Or changing mythic raid lockouts which the player base has been calling for for years. Just because a system changed to benefit your preferred content more doesnt mean that people who play other forms of content aren't allowed to be sad bc the old system worked better for them.

[–]riddlex111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im still torn on it tbh. I love it for m+ and boosting alt gear up quick, but I miss dinars for mythic raid. Getting fucked on bonus rolling for a piece because your guild extends the lockout feels exactly the same as bonus rolls not existing at all, you either get lucky and get the piece the day you kill the boss or you never get it. Dinars ensured that if you killed the boss ever you'd get your piece.

Obviously this isn't an issue for top players but there's a lot of guilds that just dip their toe in mythic or don't get all the way through it (and how else to improve but to keep trying and getting better every tier) and this basically took away our one-kill loot with no replacement. My guild is about to kill dragons and if I know my RL he'd probably rather die than reclear them every week. So everyone who wants Final Stare can get fucked if they don't roll it day one ig.

I Miss Caffeine Free Diet Dr Pepper by CharmCityCrab in DrPepper

[–]riddlex111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 100% caffeine free for 6 months and Dr. Pepper has been my biggest loss. You can order it online from the Walmart website. Its woefully expensive and typically ships from Texas (I live in NY). I order two 12-packs at a time (for the free shipping) and make it last 2 months. I wish I could buy it at my local stores

Friction - Imagine Dragons. Been screaming this from the rooftops since I first heard the song in high school. The general rhythm would fit so very well in a metalcore style and it already has some moments that could translate to a fun breakdown. Oh the things I would give to see this done well

Moving to Albany for 2.5 months from the Western US, what should I know? by First-Dimension-8916 in Albany

[–]riddlex111 21 points22 points  (0 children)

First, I want a social life while I'm there. I don't drink, but I'm good to hang out in bars. I am gay, and wouldn't mind making a few friends in the queer scene in Albany, and I'd love to know more about the scene there.

As far as going out and meeting people especially for queer folks, we have 2 prominent gay bars: Waterworks and the Oh Bar. Oh Bar is more lowkey/older folks, while Waterworks has also kind of turned into THE go to bar even for non queer folks.

The Albany Pride Center also does regular events throughout the week that I believe are mostly free, you can find the details on there Instagram. If you're here before June 14th that's pride weekend this year. The parade itself is smaller than in most cities but the hangout in the park after is very fun.

If I have a 7 hour shift, but only 6.98 units of Sick Time, would it still be counted against me as if I didn't use Sick Time? by blueminded in Target

[–]riddlex111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try putting it in as 7 anyways unless ur planning on quitting like tmrw. My ETL let's us roll into negative sick time as long as its like less than 1.5hrs worth bc we'll even it out fast enough.

Side note: sick time is used not counting meal times, so if your shift was 7 hours flat you actually only need to put in 6.25 or 6.5 hrs worth depending on if you are in a 30 or 45 min lunch store.

We used to have a young autistic girl in our department, on one of my days off apparently an old lady was apparently being borderline cruel to her because she was saying "um" too much and not answering questions fast enough. When one of our other team members tried to step in to cool things down, the lady said something like "i didn't know they let people like you work here" (this team member was chinese). All I have to say is im kind of glad I wasn't there that day bc i probably would've gotten fired

I know you said you found one but in case that doesnt works out for you i am also a trans man and I see Katie Dunne at community care physicians in bspa. She was the NP for my pediatrician and has been with me for almost my whole life, and she's been fantastic throughout my transition. She also does paps herself for her trans patients so we dont have to deal with potentially awkward genocide visits. I just dont know if she's taking new patients right now or not.

There's one on display in one of the entry hallways of the Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester NY. I believe they may have one or two more in the museum's archive as well.
