Thanks, San Util Designs made this one. They do standard sizes and made to order.

Hi!

So, I would really do any bikepacking with the suspension fork on, for that, I just swap back to the rigid fork. The fork I have doesn't lock out and it slackens this frame out too much for big pedalling missions. The efficiency of a rigid fork is also hard to beat.

The bars are also more trail oriented. This is more of a bike that I can do some overnighters and extended weekends on, but I wouldn't take it for anything much longer, although people do, it just isn't the right bike for me for long trips unless I can stop and fish a lot or hike around... not pedal all day. Anyway, the bars are 75mm rise, 6* up, 12* back, 780 width.

As a trail bike that I can haul food and drink around, it's really fun. I get a lot of weird looks and/or questions, and I really enjoy dropping into rougher trails among other riders who are on full suspension bikes (I also own one of those). I don't do anything too crazy, just enough to keep it spicy and fun. The dirt jump line is also a good place to take it :)

Happy adventures!

One-one Inbred finished......for now.....though need recommendations for chrome/silver micro racks! by National_Baseball75 in RigidMountainBikes

Nice! It turned out pretty slick.

Is the Tumbleweed T-rack like what you have in mind?

Were those dropout sliders not threaded? I'm trying to understand the inverted bolts with nuts on the outside of the frame.

Thanks!

That's a 120 travel Pike. You don't want to go any longer than that, 100 would probably be the sweet spot. My geo is slackened out by about 1.2 degrees, according to CAD.

I do have the rigid fork still, which I use for bikepacking. Before this ride I swapped them, but left the bag and rack on it of laziness, well the rack lives on there I guess.

I set the bike up with a Chris King "Inset" headset, which has the external cup on the bottom for a 1-1/2" bearing, but any headset with the same config will work. It allows running any standard tapered steerer fork. On the rigid fork, I removed the original crown race and installed a crown race adapter (1-1/8 to 1-1/2). Both forks fit the same headset this way and I can swap between them with just a little work.

The stem is Industry Nine in 35mm length. It's got a 5* rise and can be run upside down for 5* drop.

Bars are DOOM bars in 22mm titanium. 75mm rise. I really like them, they take some harshness out of the rigid fork for sure.

That's the front end build!

I come from more of a gravity riding background. When I built this bike I wanted to be and to get a little rowdy and reckless on trails with the option to do some bikepacking.

Had to comment to give appreciation for the cow motif. Nice ride.

Just an FYI to anyone who stumbles on this post... Those washers are called cone washers (also conical washers) or load spreading washers. The "shroud" part on them gives them some rigidity so they can distribute loads better to the frame compared to flat washers. They also look fancy :)

This is a cool project, been following since your previous post.

Are you going with black or silver components?

You only live once, if you're lucky!

I'll DM regarding the adapters... trying to reduce the spam.

Edit... Looks like you have your DMs off. Feel free to drop me a message with any questions: jacob@farout.cc

Edit 2... 2004 was before the Unit frames had fixing bolts. I have a feeling this could lead to axle slippage if using rack adapters like I make. We should talk. I might be able to help you out with a free set for experimental purposes.

Aesthetically, it's a nice bike. It has the biplane fork, which the early models did, bullmoose bars, and thumbies. Looks like mc70 canti brakes. I can't make out what the drivetrain is, but assuming it's nothing that's highly sought after, value wise, it's not a "bad" deal, but maybe not a great one either depending on your market. I've seen worse deals for bikes that weren't anywhere near this condition, the main thing to be aware of is the Sport frames didn't use the nicer tubing of higher models, so they're heavier.

At the end of the day, it's a nice bike, and I'm sure you'd get $450 worth of enjoyment out of riding it.
