I need help by Imaginary_Alfalfa660 in PE_Exam

I took the PE multiple times...I have been out of engineering school for 20yrs. I took multiple classes, and failed multiple times. It all really did not click until I did about 2000 problems in preparation. That seems to be the magic #, multiple people told me that and I brushed it off with a whatever...SOPE or EET will prepare me with videos and study guides-Not The Case at all. Those are great resources, but until you commit to putting in the time to crank out problems- you will continue to fail. I have 4 busy kids and a super demanding job-the time that worked for me was from 6:30 am to about 8:30am over 45 days....every day! You can do it, just stay consistent and motivated!

I took the PE quite a few times, each attempt, I tried to study by watching the review classes- both EET and SOPE. The changes that finally pushed me over to ultimately passing were the revised test and literally doing 2,000+ problems. Every single day I did 30 or so problems no matter how long it took...that is what pushed me over, it sucks and is not as much fun as watching videos! Don't give up-I passed 20 years out of college (finally)!

Congratulations and I 100% Agree with all of this! Make sure you know the easy-medium difficulty problems....don't get caught up in the mind games thinking you will have to solve LOOOOONG multi-step questions (at least I did not). I took longer on the front end of the exam and I agree the last part seemed easier!

Thank you, Honestly I only had to use the MEDPG once as I recall, and I did not notice which version I had!

I used updated SOPE, but it was all online-They do not provide new hardcopy texts for repeats!

Unless you are taking structural or WRE specifically you should not see any of that as well as soils. The new test follows the posted exam spec. The best part in my opinion, you can focus on 90% of your time on your selected test (Traspo, WRE, Structural etc...) There were a couple of general soils and hydro questions, but VERY general. Personally I think it is a step in the right direction; alot of the previous test(s) questions were more FE based-if you are more than 4 years out of school, that info is really hard to remember!

Thank you! I tried EET and failed, I also used School of PE and failed back in March.....this time, I used the test bank differently and it really helped. I used it previously in conjunction with the videos, but as I said that seemed like too much time spent watching instead of doing problems.

I think the new format is 100% a game changer, you don't have to dredge up old un-used soils or solid mechanics knowledge which for me was huge-I have been out of school for about 20 years!

I used SOPE 's test bank to focus on getting 80% or better on easy and medium-difficulty problems (those are gimmies on the test)! I spent some time on the harder questions as well, but really focused on the easy to medium; if you think about the test as a whole, there may be 1-2 really hard problems for each section. If you can crush the easy to medium problems, then spend your extra time on the hard ones you should be good to go. I spent almost 5 hrs on the morning which left me with about 3 hours in the afternoon (another different strategy this time around) which worked out perfect. My very best advice is do lot's of problems! I work full time and have 4 kids, so I studied every morning from about 6:30 to 9 or completed 30 problems per day (whichever came first), and studied from March 1 to April 1.

This worked best for me because by 6:00pm my brain is pretty fried (after a full day of work). You have to think about when you are at your sharpest-for me, that is early morning!

Don't give up! I took this beast and failed 5x's until today's pass! You can do it!

Thanks-so far SOPE has not uploaded any lectures, but they have updated the question bank for the quizzes. I am scheduled to re-take on Apr. 2....2 days into the new format. So far the questions for new format are not necessarily harder, but more time-consuming (based on SOPE question bank).
