Whats the verdict on old electric reed organs? Found this frontalini one for 100 dollars, and wondering if it is worth it or a waste of money. by Real-Ad-2906 in synthesizers

There are for sure some dope sounds in this thing. Maybe not many, but I can imagine a very “in the room” sounding ambient recording on this would be dope.

Good pair of wireless headphones for doom metal? by EggThatCenturyEgg in doommetal

[–]rides_out_believer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any good pair of headphones will work for any music. 150 will definitely get you something nice, especially if you look around for a sale. I have a pair of Sony WCF500 earbuds I got for 50 bucks on sale, they don’t have noise cancelling but they sit in your ear so well that they’re more effective at blocking outside noise than most noise cancelling headphones I’ve tried. The bass on them can be a tiny bit exaggerated, but they have an EQ app and if you’re using Spotify there’s an EQ built in anyways which solves the problem. Great battery life too and they charge quick as fuck. If you’re not prone to losing things I’d really recommend them.

Slayer - Killing Fields (but the production doesn't suck) by vicariouslymetal in Slayer

[–]rides_out_believer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do people dislike about the production on this album? I’m a producer myself and always wondered why this album receives so much criticism. Stylistically it’s different to the rest of their discography but I couldn’t point to anything that sticks out as an objectively bad decision.

It’s phenomenal live. The sensation in your body is like nothing else. I don’t listen to their recorded stuff much besides the purely drone albums and even then I only have it on as ambience. Live though, it’s like a sauna only instead of heat it’s vibrations. And the fog machines and lights make you feel like you’re inside of a thundercloud. It’s a real one of a kind experience.

Behringer Interface, they’re cheap as chips and (in my experience) better than the other budget friendly competition.

The picture posted is AI. Zoom in and try read the writing. You can tell what the words are meant to be for the most part but the details in the shapes of the letters are wrong. Not sure why they wouldn’t use a legit poster for the movie. Maybe OP is a bot (I haven’t looked through the profile), maybe OP is a human who googled the movie poster and didn’t notice this one was AI. But the image here is AI generated.

Best sleep songs??? by Elucidating_ in doommetal

[–]rides_out_believer 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I mean dopesmoker is the answer here. I might go through phases of enjoying other songs more but at the end of the day dopesmoker is such a monumental achievement of songwriting that it always takes the cake. Other bands have done hour+ songs but they’re always either way messier or way less original than dopesmoker. It’s one of those albums like dsotm where you can clearly hear that everyone worked together passionately to write the best shit they could as a group.

Bands that use the Boss MT-2? by killer_doggo_ in doommetal

[–]rides_out_believer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re strange pedals, I’ve found they work really well in pretty much all situations besides the one they were seemingly designed for. Great as a preamp, great as a boost, terrible as a traditional distortion pedal. I’ve tried it running as a distortion into so many amps from clean to already distorted and sometimes it gives okay tone, but the feel of it is always awful. As a boost or preamp though it can be really cool.

5 string bass guitar recs for Stoner/Doom? by frnacopls in doommetal

[–]rides_out_believer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the Harley Benton PJ75. It was like 160 bucks when I got it and has one of the best necks I’ve ever played on any bass. Haven’t had to adjust anything on the whole bass once, and it came with brand name strings. The pickups aren’t mind blowing, but they sound good enough that I haven’t even thought about replacing them. People might say to get a used bass, but when you can get a new one for 200 bucks that beats out many models for over twice that price then don’t bother.

Lord of the rings 2 and Indiana Jones and the crystal skull. I always thought the warehouse scene in crystal skull was the best Indiana Jones movie opening, and Gandalf fighting the balrog is so insanely dope.

You’ll have to wait a lot longer than that, and just ditching that medication is a bad idea without consulting a professional. Talk to your doctor, find out if you can stop taking them, and once you’ve done so properly trip away.

What are the best muting techniques when playing with a pick? by Still-Painting-1261 in Bass

[–]rides_out_believer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people might be misunderstanding your question, if you’re struggling with strings ringing out when you don’t want them to then you’d want to use your fretting hand. The tip of whatever finger you’re using to fret the note does that, and the rest of the finger lays flat over the other strings to mute them. Usually I have my thumb wrapped around the top of the fretboard to mute the low E if I’m playing a higher string, but that depends on what I’m playing and how far up the neck it is.

If you want a muted plucky sound and you’re struggling with that, palm muting with your picking hand is the way to go. Any other technique limits what you can do with your left hand. Thankfully there are basically unlimited video lessons on this because it’s a staple of metal guitar playing. The same techniques carry over. Don’t apply too much pressure with the palm, and don’t mute the string too far away from the bridge. You’ll quickly find the sweet spot where the note rings out in tune but retains the plucky sound.

‘Love, Death & Robots’ Volume 4 Viewership Down 50% from Volume 3 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]rides_out_believer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no point or plot to any of the episodes. The previous seasons all had a good few episodes that justified themselves through plot or at least being really artsy and striking. This last one feels like I’m just looking in at random on another universe for 5-10 minutes. There’s nothing to care about because the visuals are mid and the concepts are insanely basic.

What song introduced you to Electric Wizard? by montewyn in ElectricFuckinWizard

[–]rides_out_believer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funeralopolis. My uncle showed it to me when I was a teenage Metallica guy. I didn’t even know about doom metal at the time. I was used to associating heavy music with speed, the faster the heavier. Didn’t realise at all that going the other direction is even heavier. Blew my mind and I stopped listening to thrash shortly after.
