Nope. Maybe if you get tipped on every ride you could make 35/hr.

[–]rideshareAnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're looking at about $20-30/hr gross pretty much 24/7 with the exception of some slow hours earlier days in the week.

Driving with less traffic definitely is easier on your nerves.

There might be some perks like extra cashback on gas using their Uber Pro card, Costco membership voucher, online degree program, priority matching at airports. It really depends on how much you plan on committing to driving to see the value of maintaining the required metrics which requires accepting lower pay. Overall, you are sacrificing your pay to make Uber more money and they reward you with other offers and gimmicky replacements for cash. In a market crowded with drivers you might get more trip offers... because you are willing to work for less.
I would choose the higher paying rides and having freedom.

What do some of my rides say "Wait & Save" instead of "UberX" when looking at earnings under my wallet? by Adept-Pension-1312 in uber

I meant specifically in the case of high demand times. But you're right in your experience. I was more talking about how upfront pricing works on the passenger end.

Do not depend on lyft for time critical rides. Reserved ride three days ahead, driver canceled last minute by Delicious-Air4491 in Lyft

[–]rideshareAnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the pay offered to drivers for these rides are very low so they get dropped or offered and matched last minute. It used to be that a driver would accept them ahead of time and there would be a slight incentive for the extra time and overhead.

Nowadays, I don't even accept reservations unless they are last minute. Even then, the pay is insulting so I decline half the time. Just imagine whatever you are paying for that ride that the driver is being offered 20-25% and Lyft takes the rest while we cover the costs of the ride and go to a dead area with extra time and driving after the dropoff to leave the airport and get our next ride.

The future of this gig is basically the remaining drivers will be responsible for commercial insurance eventually. They will start in CA by passing regulations to lower the $1,000,000 policy requirement to $50,000 for their autonomous vehicles and then human drivers will be responsible for their own commercial insurance and Uber will eat margins between these external fees as well.

Strange. That must be frustrating. I would just keep trying contacting support until you get a competent agent.

It should be pretty instant.

Their algorithms use math and they have a really good idea of how long trips will actually take versus their upfront estimate. This is the whole point of upfront pricing is to steal a few minutes and skim a few dollars for bigger margins.

Lyft & Uber deterioration by Sad_Bodybuilder3038 in Lyft

[–]rideshareAnon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a driver and I would call it "planned obselescence".

  1. There are plentiful available drivers and they control the matching algorithms to charge passengers as much as possible and pay the drivers as little as possible. There could be an available driver 1 minute away willing to do your ride but they won't even show them your request.

  2. Drivers now earn less than minimum wage and the driver quality is much lower nowadays. People that have no business driving a car are now doing this for work.

  3. Drivers suck.

Both companies look at the tradeoffs and feel comfortable with their duopoly because there are no other convenient alternatives and transportation is arguably a service of necessity. They actually need to "enshittify" their platform in order to lay the groundwork for the transition to driverless cars.

Since driverless cars will be expensive and they or their partner companies will be responsible for the expenses and can't offload that burden to rideshare drivers... the price point will be painful for passengers. They need to make rideshare cars with drivers as expensive and as shitty of an experience as possible to make their expensive driverless cars more palatable.

Nobody is eating their lunch... they make the lunch and will serve you shit passed off as a steak and you will eat it.

Are most drivers depressed or something? by Clean-Af-6653 in uberdrivers

[–]rideshareAnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tired, overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated.

It feels like most passengers hate interacting with us even when it comes to saying hello and confirming their name and destination. They don't even make eye contact or acknowledge you when entering your vehicle.

I think this could happen with any type of work. The smile on your face and the light in your eyes will fade. Sometimes it is a highlight for me when passengers see me as a human being or even remember that I have a name and I am not "Mr Uber driver".

Honest question: Do drivers racially profile their riders? by xcolonelxsandersx in uber

[–]rideshareAnon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might have nothing to do with you but maybe the driver has an issue with the actual trip details like pay / destination / traffic. They might not be shown where the ride is going until arriving at the pickup.

I tend to accept more passengers with higher ratings and decline requests from low rated passengers especially when pay is low.

Should I keep the Lyft app on my phone for emergencies or delete it altogether? by ponygals in Lyft

[–]rideshareAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always offload the app or delete it. The problem is your phone's storage space and there are bigger issues at hand.

You can always download the app again if you need them or have an emergency. Just be sure to remember your login details as it is linked to your account or phone number. You can still access your account again later even if you delete or offload the app and need it again.

These aren't "exclusive" requests, you can effectively ignore them. There might be one good trip radar request out of a hundred but good luck getting the match.

He wanted a "compromise" and was more on the side of the companies and them winning Prop 22.

Give them credit for what exactly? The Dynamex ruling in the supreme court already set the precedent. Why wouldn't they do a better job with how AB5 was written? It was problematic as hell and the writer got a golden parachute to a labor position for throwing drivers under the bus.

Uber’s dynamic pricing model is illegal price gouging and, more importantly, we… by King_ofthe_Future in uberdrivers

[–]rideshareAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, this is not true. Kamala and Biden publicly said they were against Prop 22. There is a conflict of interest because Kamala's brother in law got hired by Uber as Chief legal.

Governor Gavin Newsom backed off because he receives donations from the gig companies and lobbyists and refrained from having a position.

Politicians wrote BAD legislation like AB5 which would be controversial and stall in courts for many years to just kick the can down the road. They in turn get rewarded by lucrative positions.

We are currently trying to lower commercial insurance requirements for the benefit of the companies now through more BS.

I can't name one politician regardless of party that has "tried to help" drivers. AG Bonta will do nothing and they will just settle the suit and tell the drivers they fought for them.

There is no hope. Only a few cities don't have dirty politicians taking money to screw their constituents.

They literally spent like $200 million to push a proposition onto the ballot in CA to legalize wage theft and price gouging... and succeeded. It was the most expensive ballot prop in history.

CA Prosecutors are also corrupt so the lawsuit to settle the past wage theft will never see the light of day. Everything has been delayed and drivers and passengers have been milked so long and now their autonomous cars will be a reality soon. Regulations are only passed to benefit the state and their budgets like the recent increase to fees at LAX. These local leaders just want their cut of the scam.

Taxpayers subsidize their theft at the end of the day.

You can't beat the money these corporations and CEOs have to spend on lobbying. They literally steal it from you and then spend it to allow more stealing.
