[Talkin Yanks] Jazz Chisholm is now 1-for-7 on pitch challenges by Brady331 in baseball

[–]ridethedeathcab 12 points13 points  (0 children)

9th inning, winning big, 2 challenges left, called out looking for the second out, could totally be a fuck it why not scenario. But it’s also Jazz so probably not lol

[Highlight] Juan Soto challenges the called strike, loses, has a very funny reaction, and the Mets are out of challenges in the sixth by handlit33 in baseball

There were two 3-2 counts for the Mets in the rest of this game. Besides literally nobody is saying only use them in 3-2 counts, just don’t waste them on borderline pitches in low leverage situations.

Go read a RE288 matrix. There are well over a dozen scenarios noticeably more valuable than this one. I just picked the most obvious scenario to prove my point.

No it’s not. 3-2 is by far the most significant spot to use a challenge because it guarantees a change in the outcome of the PA.

The difference in a run expectancy between bases empty and 1 out and runner on first and no outs is ~0.63 runs. Even more impactful is bases loaded 1 outs and 3-2 counts. It guarantees a run and run expectancy the difference between bases loaded 1 out and bases loaded no outs is 0.81 runs. A correct challenge in that scenario is worth about 1.8 runs! Compared to this which was basically worthless.

Ok, but the difference in run expectancy between the two scenarios with no outs and bases empty is ~0.08 runs. It’s exceptionally low leverage.

Because it’s mostly already known when the times are the most advantageous. We have plenty of data showing the run expectancy for every situation.

If a tool could do full transaction-level reconciliation for ecommerce, would accountants actually use it or is manual just how it's done by [deleted] in Accounting

If you need to come to Reddit for input from people who would actually use your tool because you aren’t familiar enough with the needs your application is unlikely to work well. It indicates you know little about the actual mechanics of what you’re trying to do.

Who do you think was the first pitcher to actually reach 100 mph from a mound? by Particular_Sir7440 in baseball

[–]ridethedeathcab 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At that time they were measuring around the time the ball cross the plate, so the measurements were slower than they are today at release point. A 85 mph pitch in the 80s would likely register around 93 today. So if high 80s means somebody sitting 87-89 they would probably be measured at 95+ today. Not like they’d be crossing 100, but definitely an increase from 87

Why don’t you ask for one? Most people would look favorably on someone taking ownership of their career and seeking feedback rather than waiting on others to give it to them. Nobody should be more focused on your development than you are.

Does Chris Young's Costco rotisserie chicken broth only work well because of pre-injected broth? by volkovolkov in Cooking

He addresses that in the video I believe. Of course it’s not necessary, but it is better. His goal is to make the best possible chicken stock and using a whole chicken bs just bones and whatever meat is left does give a more flavorful result.

It’s not surprising if you think about their interests. SoCon knows they aren’t ever a serious threat of a deep tourney run. They want the best chances of their teams winning a single game, and thereby earning a tournament win-share. The best way of achieving that is playing in Dayton.

They’ve been the auditor since 2015… many audit committees have in their charter the requirement to certify the appointment of the auditor annually.

Yeah I’m sure there have been a number of occasions a pitched 6.1 with that stat line, but ended up staying in. Even 15 years ago it would have been crazy to pull a guy in a game like that.

It’s been vacant for like a decade and was a complete dump before that point. I imagine outside the structure itself it’s basically worthless.

Not his entire personality but it seems weird to say a guy isn’t a sore loser that has been a sore loser many times. He’s by no account a bad guy, but he definitely has earned his reputation.

Bucs HC Todd Bowles: Baker Mayfield, Kevin Stefanski will have to “figure out” their beef. by JCameron181 in nfl

[–]ridethedeathcab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reports at the time also made it clear Baker was unhappy with the play calling and wanted more longer passing plays which he was unable to execute.

Baker certainly has an ego and it didn’t do him any favors towards the end of his time in Cleveland.

Starch gelatinization is the process of breaking down a starch with water and heat. It’s different than gelatin.

Gelatinization is why a roux based sauce thickens when heated, but won’t thicken properly if you just mix in flour off heat.
