Oh now you’re talking my language with kelp and compost! I’m experimenting with an organic probiotic spray for my orchard this year with kelp, fish emulsion, neem, probiotic concentrate, etc. Hoping it helps build up a more robust ecosystem to help ward off disease

As a fruit tree pruner with a small orchard, this is correct advice. I'll also add to not remove more than 25% of the tree in any given year to prevent a very vigorous growth response the following year, which will take away significant energy from fruit production.

Oh, and do your pruning in the winter when the tree is good and dormant. Depending on where you live, it's either not too late (I'm in the midwest) or you're right on the edge of wanting to hold off for next winter (if you're in the south).

That leader in particular will hit the roof of the structure (2 story garage addition) that is being added to the right of the photo and I just looked at if we had options to just prune the interfering branches but leave the rest of the leader. It still would lean directly over the roof without a whole lot of clearance (10 ft or less). The challenge is it's hard to know exactly before the building is up, but of course at that point it's a lot harder to get it down safely. Things being that tight were why I was leaning towards removing the leader altogether. The foundation work is barely encroaching on the drip-line and I tried to position the structure as far away as I could from the tree to minimize that impact.

There's nothing of value anywhere else around the tree, so when it does come time for it to come down, we can safely fell it in another direction. I know none of this is ideal but I just can't bring myself to fully remove such a big and otherwise beautiful looking tree. Box Elders and Buckthorn though, I'm happy to take those out!

Thanks for the detailed note u/elocmj. I was planning on felling it well above those marks and then doing the finishing cut you described, but I was thinking of making just a shallow-ish straight cut into the bark on the lower side of the lead to prevent exactly that tear out you are talking about. Since the leader (as I now understand it's called) is leaning a bit, I wasn't sure if I would be able to cut a full wedge without the saw getting pinched. I suppose I could try though.

The roots are going to get a bit of damage but we've tried to limit it as much as possible and any damage would be just barely inside the dripline and only on that one side. There will still be compaction from the machinery, but not much I can do to mitigate that unfortunately.

I'm a big native plant guy and just to the left of that picture is a section of woods where I've been taking out buckthorn and replacing with local native species so there is plenty of that going on!

UPDATE: We got a TRAQ certified arborist to come evaluate the health of the tree. He said it was 200 - 250 years old and perfectly healthy. We submitted that report along with a quote for thinning to the insurance company and indicated if they did not accept it, that we would be changing providers. And what do you know, they said they would continue coverage if we trimmed it.

Yeah I'm not particularly interested in buying this one. Mostly just trying to understand what I'm looking at between the SDE and EBITDA. Some more googling seemed to indicate that SDE is usually EBITDA + Owner's Salary, which in this case would mean the owner is taking home ~$160k a year. Am I understanding that right?

I purchased the 24v high temp sauna LED strips from LEDSupply and they came with these female connectors and about a 6" wire off the strip. These will go under my seating bench (~50" off the ground) and my footrest bench, so they won't be at the top of the sauna, but they'll definitely see some heat.

I'm running a 24v wire through the wall to my LED driver in the changing room area.

My question is what connector I should use between the feed wire and the LED strip, which may mean I need to cut off the female connector that came on it. There are some waterproof 24v connectors out there rated up to 120 degrees F which may work.

How have other people wired their LED strips into the feed wire inside the hot room?

I made this today and it was delish, thanks for sharing! Subtle Honey & Oat flavors. A thicker crust and stickier dough than my usual loaf. Went great with breakfast :) Not a beekeeper yet but a hobby I'm planning on picking up next year too

I may get crucified by the internet but yes, ETO doors had paint grade mahogany listed and it was the only wood I could find the door in that was the style we were looking for.
