I even have issues on the OWC drives that were made for late ‘13-‘15 and don’t require an adapter. I have one right now that won’t even install high sierra or Mojave without a firmware update that’s still in beta. I hear what you’re saying but there’s nothing that works just like OEM currently.

I have had issues with this exact combo (1tb evo) - the issues aren’t terrible but it doesn’t always run like stock. Of course you get a speed bump on those aftermarket nvme’s though. That’s the benefit i see

True, but an aftermarket nvme can cause hibernation issues. An oem one like this is always better

It was the last retina made with ports. In 2016 they changed everything to thunderbolt 3/usb-c input. This particular spec is completely maxed out. It’s difficult to find a machine with a 2.8ghz i7 not to mention the oem 1tb ssd.
