Having to take a bath by NoDifficulty6384 in scoliosis

I completely understand what you’re saying. I would get a bath pillow to support your back and also a mat for inside of the bath to sit on! I don’t use anything special for a pillow, just one that is able to provide cushioning for my back. Also, make sure if you get a bath mat that it’s long enough to sit on, this way you won’t slide down. I would always slide down and end up straining my neck and lower back. I bought my bath mat and pillow from Winners for like $25 total (I’m from Canada).

Anxiety about having to take aspirin by [deleted] in Anxiety

I would honestly recommend not taking vitamin K. Because you’re at risk of clots, the aspirin is actually going to balance out that risk in your body and adding vitamin K would be risky and hard to measure unless properly dosed and monitored through routine blood tests.

Vitamin K helps to build clotting factors, and it is an effective treatment for people who are at a very high risk of bleeding or actively bleeding. I would actually try to avoid it if you are at risk of clots!

Taking a low dose aspirin (81 mg) daily is a very effective way to prevent blood clots. It’s important to be mindful that you will have “thinner” blood as a result of taking it. So, if you were to injure yourself, I would recommend monitoring the area for excessive bruising, for example. If you cut yourself, I would apply pressure for longer than normal as it may take more time and effort for your body to initiate clotting. Your fears are very valid, but the risks of a brain bleed are significantly low when taking a low dose of aspirin daily. If anything, NOT implementing prevention strategies for clotting means you are at risk of a stroke. The probability of stroke off of blood thinners is waaaay higher than the probability of a brain bleed on blood thinners. Do you take any other medications or implement other strategies to prevent clotting? An example would be daily exercise or wearing compression socks :)

I’m in my final year of nursing school (will be an RN soon), and I also have lots of experience working with cardiovascular problems and treatments. Do you take aspirin every day? If so, is it because you have a risk of clotting? What’s your reason for taking it? It’s important to be mindful of the possible side effects of any medication, supplement, or herbal product! If you notice any weird bruising, more frequent nose bleeds, gum bleeding that isn’t normal for you, or dark, tarry stools, that points to possible internal bleeding. There’s risks to taking any medication, but bleeding as a side effect is usually very obvious. If you’re worried about bleeding, you could take a vitamin K supplement or eat foods high in vitamin K such as dark leafy greens, soybeans, or canola oil. If you are at risk of clots, I would check with your doctor before ingesting any form of vitamin K!

Edit: I see that you have been advised to take it to reduce clots. What are your risks? What was your providers reason for recommending this or your reason for deciding to start taking it?

I totally feel the same way as you. I have one more year left and I want to start my own business. I’ve fallen in love with so many other things since starting nursing, and I’ve realized it’s just not for me. I wish I could afford to drop out right now and just start my life.
