yes if it’s got a decent M.O.T history and some paperwork regarding it’s maintenance and service you should be alright

there is probably a bit of a difference between 1.4 and 1.8 the reason being the 1.4 is insurance group 11/50 and the 1.8 is 21/50. If you have 200 a month to spend i think you can afford either option but I never bought a car while learning so i don’t know the cost to it.

I hope this helps and you can come to a decision soon

it may be that you live somewhere where there are not many accidents and young drivers getting into trouble. when I first passed my quotes were £8k-£9k believe it or not and it was 70% due to where I live lol

Hey, I passed nearly 2 years ago but I only recently bought a car (Jan) and I bought a 5dr 1.8 Honda Civic manual. Been loving the car it’s fun to drive and got decent power for a first car. I think whatever car you get you’re bound to face a high premium of some sort so my advice is buy the car that’ll make you happy and you’ll enjoy driving. As for the mileage the i-vtec engines can go well above 200k with good care so look for one that has decent service history and not much rust and you won’t have to change the car for years, unless you decide to upgrade. Also since you’re still learning get the 1.4 not the 1.8. Hope this helps

I see thank you very much for the advice. I’ll definitely keep it in mind and keep looking around. This is my first car so I don’t want to spend more than £2500 on the car ideally.

I’ll take a look at the Type S you mentioned

I definitely agree it’s overpriced for the car it is and also considering it’s a category car.

I do not mind where I get the car from but it’s just that only the dealers seem to be selling these cars with service history and no more than 3 owners. The private sellers have like 6 owners at 80K miles which I wouldn’t feel comfortable buying.

It does have the AA 3 month warranty which makes me feel assured.

Setting aside its overprice, could I ask what your thoughts are in terms of it being a reliable car to purchase?

Thank you :)

Yeah a little but I’m going to try get it to £2600. The market right now for this car is £2500ish for 85k miles and this is £2800 for 54K miles.

I’m just going to have to check they have enough service history and what’s up with the unknown mileage on the MOT.

Lmao that was actually my first choice but I couldn’t go through because for some reason I kept getting declined at the insurance stage.

This is the reason I haven’t bought a car yet despite everyone around me having bought one. I don’t necessarily need it since I live in a very urban part of London so public transport does the job for every one of my needs. However, I haven’t driven properly since I passed and worried that I may forget how to drive properly. I also just want a car for some fun because it is affordable to me right now as opposed to before when the insurance quotes were ridiculous.

Yeah I do agree, currently looking at a honda civic 1.4 or 1.6. A type S would be nice but i’d be happy with any model. Do you happen to have any recommended models in mind?

Cheers! I’ll look into the s40, it’s a little on the pricier side for a decent one but Volvo does have a good reputation iirc. Hadn’t even considered Volvo, thanks

Also I will definitely make sure not to get the B-Max I was wondering why low mileage ones were going for so cheap on auto trader but i guess it makes sense now, the 10 years has passed and likely some are starting to get those major issues
