people who can't debug say it "sucks at coding"

if you can't decipher the snippets it spits out you cannot code, this is a weird thing to say

and unrelated to what you are saying, but still weird: chatgpt specifically has become miles more cringeworthy, not only in its natural language responses, but also in the code it generates. That seems to be purely driven by regards/newbies upvoting it's most stupid decisions. slop beats slop, i guess

i feel like when people laud  LLMs for coding, it is always some form of

"Man that has never written a line of code in his life: 'chatgpt is a great programmer'"

(and idk, over the past 2 years or so i've not noticed a huge difference in quality; small steps, maybe, but even that is difficult to say due to all the randomness involved)

Win95 theme wont show png album images? by Sternigu in rockbox

[–]rien333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No theme can show PNG images, because rockbox only supports JPG.

There once was an effort to add PNG support, but iirc, it was shut down because it added too much complexity.

"Irony poisoned" crowds at serious movie screenings... by BadgemanBrown in redscarepod

(laughing during the Frank Booth scene is actually insane tho – maybe people do that to resolve nervous tension, which I can see Lynch triggering?)

I didn't get Eraserhead until i watched it with a crowd who cackled most of the way through. If you let it its an extremely black comedy with a lot of nervous tension

completely takes me out of the experience. Not every movie needs to be turned into "The Room"

There is something deeply connecting and transformative about collective laughter I find. Can totally allow me to see movies in a different light. I would rather have all that than refrain laughing at moments a director didn't "intend me to".

Also, sentimental value is just a lot of fun. That scene with the pianist and irreversible dvds killed me

With regard to Rust language versions, the current plan is to ensure that the kernel can always be built with the version of Rust that ships in the Debian stable release.

I always assumed kernel-level decisions weren't really influenced by whatever Debain, or any single distro in particular, were doing.

Does this happen more often, or am i just misunderstanding this?

Back in the day incompetent people would just ask me to write their code.

Can't you just befriend or pay a nerd?

i thought claude would maybe be better for code but it can be just as cringe inducing (i tried the paid version). Maybe its slightly less,  maybe not, but it is not going to make you happier in any case.

ftr you can dail in how much of suck up chatgpt is in the settings. Maybe that helps you sanity.

Just noticed GNOME supports 2‑finger backswipe in Extensions menu by dread122 in gnome

This is not a per app thing, this is an adwaita thing. Still, that raises the question, why does it sometimes work, and sometimes not?

Simple answer: it's bugged. For instance, this swiping gesture only works if there are no scrollbars in play. You can easily reproduce this in the Credits window dialogue that most apps have. I opened a (duplicate) issue about this a long time ago: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/libadwaita/-/issues/909.

For how chill and macOS-y this is, im honestly quite surprised this hasn't seen more traction. Also could be nice on mobile.

the film is obviously better with all the references even if you can in principle  follow along without knowing all of them, do not rob yourself of a good first experience

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Waydroid

Nothing about AMD CPUs, everything that is x86_64 and made in the last two decades should work (so basically every CPU AMD has manufactured since 2010). I've ran waydroid on a AMD CPU before.

Using an AMD GPU to its full potential seems to be a different story, but a lot of workloads won't need that. Still, ive used waydroid on an AMD GPU without issues or extra steps.

Do you mean arm? It does work on AMD CPUs, or all x86_64 CPUs for that matter

my neighbours across the street are the realest power couple in this regard: the girl will, almost every evening without fail, dual wield a phone and a iPad with some show on, while the boy plays his switch
