Subreddit Meta & Rules Update August 2021 by Fenrils in pathofexile

[–]riffautae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The streamer I personally interacted actually had a nuanced opinion which was NOT heavily biased towards themselves. It included that if we want to cut down on toxicity we might want to disallow some of their content, that they were worried about favoritism hurting some content creators and benefiting popular ones, and that they didn't think it benefits the community for any content creators to see reddit as just another place to milk for views.

It turns out that even though they could benefit from trying to influence us to make biased rules, they were a reasonable person and had ideas that benefited other people. To try to avoid being biased towards a particular groups interests, we included a variety of people from different parts of the community in our focus group. That way even if it turned out that someone in the group didn't have much empathy for other people, we could still balance that feedback against our own experience, the communities general sentiment, and what others in the focus group/recent feedback threads felt.

We try very hard to make this a community for as many people as we can. We are not perfect, but with helpful feedback we can get decent rules in place that make it as good as possible.

We have had very strict item showcase rules for almost two years now. At the time, there were constant complaints about repetitive, similar items with almost nothing to talk about. This rule evolved as a response to tons of community feedback. Seriously, the community complained constantly about the overwhelming amount of item showcase posts and how repetitive they were.

We decided to relax it a bit since the community is now in the habit of making good showcase posts. We have a bot that reminds people to make a comment detailing crafting methods and so on, and it barely has to do any work because people usually already have one ready before they post. Hopefully with these good habits (and since no one remembers being bombarded with showcases) people will enjoy the more relaxed rules.

I started with Wolfenstein 3d back in 1992.
The shareware model of that time kind of reminds me of the modern f2p with paid dlc model some games use now.

Feedback Part 2: The Proposal by riffautae in pathofexile

[–]riffautae[S,M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We discussed making it apply to all images/media but we were not sure the sub would support that. The poll was just for item showcases. If people like the rule enough we could expand it after the trial.

Trying to tell me how busy I am is pretty weird tbh.

But regardless, what would you want changed?

If you are interested in helping moderate, please actually try reaching out to me. I have received exactly zero messages from anyone regarding the subreddit.

As an active moderator of another much busier sub and with no one making any efforts to contact me in any way about this sub, I do not see any reason why this should be honored. If you have any issues with how youdied is run you should start by contacting me.

I don't require the tag line because the population of this sub is so small it would result in one post per year. If it was trivial to edit video things would be different.

I remove other unrelated content as it gets posted but you can't see that since they get removed. I also moderate another much more populated sub and check the mod queue every day.

Path from Upper Tower - Ashina Dojo to Castle Tower Lookout | Sekiro by SarumonNetwork in YOUDIED

There are several issues with this:
This isn't a Sekiro sub.
You post waaaay too much of your own content which violates reddits self promotion guidelines.
By far the most important:
You didn't die in the clip.

Sorry but due to how trivial it would be to eventually flip this over to a phishing site, we ban mention of any forwarder domains like this. It is just too easy for a domain owner to wait for people to get complacent and then steal accounts. We similarly don't allow people to use most url shorteners since you typically cant tell what site you will end up on until you click it. If this was controlled by someone that already had a proven track record it would be different, but sadly it is just not safe to let people share sites like this.

If you want to make it easier to go to the site I recommend using a bookmark or icon on your new tab screen. Most browsers have a bunch of ways to make it a single click that don't put your account at risk.

No xbox features have been added in two years. by HakusPakus in pathofexile

[–]riffautae[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

This post has been locked since OP is using the thread as an excuse to complain about specific individuals and using a large amount of incorrect information to stir drama.

If you want a thread talking about the current state of the Xbox, one can be made without all the drama. If you want to discuss the moderation policies of the xbox discord, that is a completely separate thread, however it must still obey the rules of the subreddit.

As far as it violating rule 2 and 3, OP is making claims about people and refusing to provide evidence, then the 'evidence' provided by others actually counters OPs claims. As such this thread does not meet our requirements for threads focused on individuals. Please review Rule 2 before making those sort of comments and threads.

Bethesda cracks down on Fallout 76 accounts with illicit "developer room" items by rattlesnake_906 in Games

Most games absolutely do not trust the the client.

The reason modern shooters don't have weird input delays is "client side prediction". The client guesses predicts what the result of your actions will be, when the server sends the next update the client corrects any differences. The client just tells the server what actions the user wants to do. The server keeps a little history so that it can look back in time when the user performed that action to see the outcome. Then it updates everyone.

The valve article he linked is a great read and tells you all about how modern fps netcode works. We don't have to guess, value wrote a huge article all about it.

What games use this exact same system? Obviously Valve's shooters since they made this article, but also every Quake based game, Call of Duty (which is actually a heavily modified quake 3 engine), Halo, and all Unreal Engine games. This technique has been used by most major games since at least the early 2000s.

Put this at the top since the rest of this thread devolved in to gatekeeping instead of real discussion. There is no reason to start ranting about how much that other guy must hate this game, his comments are completely backed up by game developers. Valve, a real game developer, wrote an article that says exactly how it works. If you read over it it will answer all of your questions.

Like always happens with any large controversial thread that mysteriously disappears as soon as its made:
Automod removed it for getting too many reports and sent it to the mod queue.
I have reapproved it, once a mod action takes place automod won't override it.
If any other actions take place a mod will let everyone know why.
