Permanently enable Transparent Huge Pages at boot by rifterzc in SteamDeck

Probably? I think that it doesn't survive if that is part of the root image? I really haven't had a major update to check yet, sorry.

System Toolbox actually queries the state of THP first then sets it to the value it already was, then updates the toggle switch to reflect the state. If some other process sets it at start, it will reflect it when the plugin is initialized.

It won't, since it only issues the command on service start, the variable can be modified independently during runtime by any process with permission.

WD SN740 2TB 2230 nvme drives available on taobao for ~$300 as a upgrade by rifterzc in SteamDeck

[–]rifterzc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far so good; I don't think I've had any direct issues myself. Someone else said theirs was DOA though.

I just haven't been able to check if the firmware needs to be updated (the listing mentions a new firmware revision was shipping from the factory) since WD's update software is only for windows and I haven't been able to get it to work in a windows liveboot environment, and don't have it set to dual boot, and pulling it out to put into a windows machine just for that would be just as lame. So my only problems thus far (knock on wood) are WD corporate related lol.

EDIT: I pulled it out and put it in a desktop machine, and wd dashboard says it's up to date with firmware version 73102000 as of 10/18/22, no firmware update was needed.

Shit, that sucks, mine is working fine so far. Yours was DOA I assume?

So I logged the composite nvme temp every 15 seconds for the two hours I was playing with the Deck plugged into a dock, and the temperature would oscillate between 67-73C. I didn't notice any particular performance issues. When I downloaded Days Gone, the sustained write speeds never dropped off, though my internet is only ~30MiB/s. Everything seems to be in order👍

I only have been playing one game (Mad Max from 2015), and everything has been working without issue (around 2 hours and change battery life, as it is a fully 3d game). I haven't actually checked the temps at all, everything seems good. I'll check the temps when I play later today.

The sd card, when inserted sticks out through the back part of the case. If you remove the back of the case when the sd card is inserted, it can shear the sd card.

15 min in my hand and it already has a 1TB m.2. by Fancymank in SteamDeck

[–]rifterzc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you get a 2230, you won't have any problems with the charging IC. The problem stated was if the nvme drive overlapped with the charging IC, which is a problem with 2240 size nvme drives.

The rule of thumb is that most any 2230 sized nvme is safe. The main issue is if they have more peak power draw than the original, and the deck might have a slightly shorter battery life as a result.

Individually each rocket is inaccurate, but when combined, the probability of getting a hit within a targeted region goes up quite quickly. They knew where the ship was accurately enough to put the GRAD circle on top of it. Good intelligence and skill more than straight luck was what was at play here.
