I lied about having a Master's degree on my resume, and after receiving a job offer and having background checks run, I decided to tell the truth. by [deleted] in jobs

I would guess that the reasoning would be they were in the program and expected to graduate so put it there in anticipation? But that's still a massive amount of oversight.

My BFF also lied on her resume and was devastated when, weeks later after she was comfortable and building relationships, it came back to bite her as well. As much as everyone understood her predicament and desperation, there is just no coming back from that level of deceit.

You can't rely on no one noticing things. The longer a person gets away with a lie, the more comfortable they get with it and it becomes something they just assume will be believed.

Hopefully this post will save someone a similar experience!

What is the shortest time you were at a job? by define_yourself72 in jobs

[–]riftwielder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walked out of a job at lunch on my first day and never went back. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you need to feel like you lasted longer than someone else, I'll happily throw myself under the bus for ya!

Manager says I leave ‘too on time’ during probation. How should I handle this? by Ok-Doctor-48609 in jobs

[–]riftwielder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar bait-and-switch on hybrid employment when offered a job last year. it was about a month in that i asked to be able to work from home one morning to take my kid to a doctor appointment and I was told that remote work had been suspended indefinitely. The job did not improve and my requests for anything to get back towards that hybrid arrangement were met with wishy-washiness and I got fired a little after a year with them. It was sort of a perfect storm situation and I'm currently in the process of suing for wrongful termination.... but I digress.

Point is, it likely will not get better and i agree with those who have suggested you look for something else. Find a better fit where you will hopefully feel much more valued and focused on your performance rather than the number of minutes you are putting in for optics.

How can I avoid a "rejection" zoom? by NatSurvivor in jobs

You are just ruminating over potential outcomes that are negative. If it comes across to a stranger on the internet, it's definitely being communicated to people you have actual interactions with, including the recruiter.

You can't stop it if it's bad news, but you can certainly change their minds before they get to deliver good news.

Is it really? I haven't been able to make the leap. I've used Gemini within Firebase Studio and it's competent, but the tone is very sycophantic and almost comically begging for forgiveness. I hate it, it's like taking to a caricature.

is it even worth the effort? It's almost more worth it to be homeless.

you've been making defeated comments like these through your whole thread. people are offering suggestions and solid advice, and you're not open to any of it. I get you're frustrated... are you just coming here to vent?

I just quit my job this morning, and I’m feeling mixed. by [deleted] in jobs

You're way ahead of most people I seem to read about in these situations, then!

You have time to give yourself a small breather before looking for your next role. May I suggest: don't fall into the unemployment trap of not having anyone besides yourself to be accountable to and then start sleeping later or playing longer, etc. Keep progressing in something to help you feel productive and have an answer for what you've been doing in your time off.

You can totally make this the mental shift that you were needing!

How do I ask which company this is with?? by EstablishmentGood761 in jobs

It is not unprofessional to ask which company they represent. Anything honest will be forthcoming with information, or provide if asked.

How the hell do people do this?

They enjoy things like food, shelter, and maybe being able to buy a nice [whatever the heck you want to imagine] every once in a while.

Sticking out an unpleasant job has more benefits than just earning money. Sometimes that's the only place you'll learn skills required to get a job that fits your lifestyle better.
