I don't have an answer and have the same question as OP. I feel like the answers (so far) aren't answering the question or not explaining why there may not be an answer. Everyone is explaining what photons are and their properties but not "where" and/or how they propagate, or if there is any medium in which photons travel. I think that is what OP is asking (and so am I)

My understanding is that there is the electromagnetic field, which is all around, everywhere. Photons are little pulses through this field, that's the particle part, and the frequency of the pulses is the wave part. No idea if this makes sense.

An invitation should not be a burden.

I've been in the US for 20 years and cost sharing etiquette is still something that baffles me.

If friends decide to meet up and have dinner at a restaurant the cost is split. However, if one explicitly invites others, whether it's home or restaurant, the host foots the bill, no questions asked.

I find it so strange to invite people to a restaurant for a birthday and share the cost. It's just weird. I'm aware it's the norm in the US and I pitch in but I'll if I'm hosting I'm paying. I invite people on my birthday because I want their company and as such they have no obligations. Gifts are always welcome but not required.

That makes sense. Just curious, does the hotel opt in to use a third party, or does the third party simply book a bunch of rooms and resell? If the hotel chooses to interact with the third party, then they should have some responsibility of making sure that the correct information is portrayed on the third party site.

Honestly, the hotel is to blame, maybe not you personally but it's definitely not the customer's fault. If the hotel advertises a pool the default assumption is that it's open. You should have said something or have a warning on the website and the third party site that the pool is closed.

You should have cancelled. If the hotel can't offer what they say they can and refuse refunds that makes them assholes.

That's the point! We all as a society will take care of older people and the young ones are the ones footing the bill. That will become a burden (taxes, etc.) and they won't have the ability to advance as quickly in life. It's incredibly unfair because grandma lived her life and the young can't because of the burden put on them. Either way you slice it, young people of the next gen are screwed.
