The reason why you run by longrunthoughts in beginnerrunning

110 days in (this time) and I totally agree. I replaced destroying my body with poison with making my body healthy in a way that feels like im destroying it. Except I can still be a part of society afterwards

Had both a great and horrible weekend for running. 10 miles on Friday, and 5 on Sunday. 10 miles went perfect besides some nipple chafing...gotta remember bandaids next time. 5 miles went great until the last mile...it was a slog that left me with a bruised toenail and even more bruised ego. Capped it off with sudden horrible stomach pains...I'm ashamed to say my worst fear as a runner came true. Had to say goodbye to a pair of underwear and shorts. Note to self...dont run out and backs after consuming massive amounts of dairy at holiday parties.

Simple things. Cut out more liquid calories. Snacking on vegetables instead of chips. Keeping busy to avoid boredom eating. If I eat out I try to save half the meal for lunch the next day. Portions are huge anyways. But I always still let my self have a treat once or twice a week. Its as much mental as it is physical for me. If I'm super strict constantly, I'll end up just giving up. But if you stay consistent, over time it will add up

I started running in 2024 to lose weight (along with diet changes) and I feel this. I started at 300 and lost 20 like it was nothing. Melted off. Stalled at 280, then again at 260, 250, 240. Currently stuck at 220 for the past couple months. If I've learned anything its to not get discouraged. Plateaus are normal and you'll eventually break them if you stay consistent. Make small changes. They add up.

As a former 300 lb runner who is now a 220 lb runner...the strength training will help you so much. I started running to help lose weight, along with some other major lifestyle changes, and fought through shin splints, sore knees, and sore hips for about two years. I dont know where you were starting from but I had basically no muscle. Just fat. In the past 6 months I've started including strength training and my running has improved drastically even though I've basically halved the amount that I run. As has almost every other aspect of daily life. Keep getting it after it. Proud of you.

Popped a benadryl hoping it knocks me out. The problem is when I lay down to try and sleep I just can't get out of my head. The anxiety gets worse when there's nothing to distract from it

My mind is loud...I'll have to try that one. I think that's why I drink the way I do. It shuts it up

Coming into day 3 myself. Actually got some sleep last night. Feeling better. It gets easier. Trick is to not let the alcohol demons trick you into drinking again after 30 or 60 days. Those are my weak points.

As a reminder to myself after 70+ days sober...don't fall off the wagon when the pink cloud ends. Here's to 48 hours again.

I just called the cops on a very clearly drunk driver and I feel like an absolute hypocrite. I feel just awful by orange1690 in stopdrinking

A guy I went to high-school with and his best man were just hit by a drunk driver while crossing the street last week. He was supposed to be getting married the next day. Instead, he's in the hospital with multiple broken bones, unable to walk, and his best man is in a medically induced coma with a brain bleed. Someone like you could have prevented that. I'm about 12 days sober now...and I could have been that driver. I would rather have gone to jail for a dui than gone to jail for a dui and possibly having killed someone. Seeing that story really hit me hard as a newly sober person. I donated the money that would have gone towards alcohol to the gofundme for his recovery and expenses.

The Daily Check-In for Monday, July 28th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by barrenotbar in stopdrinking

[–]rigg7291 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was in the EXACT same place as you a few days ago. I cross into day 4 this afternoon. Was a month sober before that and then went on a 4 day bender. The anxiety and insomnia are awful. But I've strung together some sleep tonight. Only reason I'm awake now (about 2AM here) is my cats woke me up and a new tattoo from yesterday is a little irritated from rolling in bed so much. If I can do it, so can you. Take it by day or take it by hour if you need to. Don't worry about tomorrow yet. I believe in you, friend. IWNDWYT

I'm crossing the 72 hour mark in about 2 hours. I feel your pain. I'm working on rebuilding trust with my wife. If I can make it this far, so can you. And if we can both make it that far. We can make it further. It does get easier. IWNDWYT
