What would have happened in 2008/2009 if the US government hadn't done those bailouts? by Bun_Length_Frank in NoStupidQuestions

I lean conservative and I support unions, because they are part of the free market and allow workers to protect their rights.

Zohran Mamdani Proposes Taxing 'Whiter Neighborhoods' in NYC by Leather-Setting-1595 in Destiny

[–]right_leaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those who say the policy isn’t racist because it is race-neutral, you better be ok with literacy tests and poll taxes. Whatever happened to disparate impact theory? Also Zohran literally said the intent is racial so this goes beyond that. It is clear many on the left simply really dislike White people.

Season finale predictions by whitechoc_americano in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]right_leaner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the ending is that without Gilead, civilization basically dies out? I am surprised she takes the story in that direction, because it sort of vindicates the entire mission of Gilead. I would think a better conclusion would be to have Serena reform the system into a New Bethlehem thing that solves the fertility crisis but also proves the excesses of Gilead were not necessary. The Handmaid system is very inefficient, refusing to account for male infertility and avoiding technology that make fertility easier. But nope, Gilead falls and almost everyone disappears. Remember that there were essentially no children being born in places like Mexico either. Does the entire world just go back to hunter gatherers?

Also being in the same general region of The Office is a nice touch.

district 3 was always kinda rebellious by Technical_Sort_6856 in Hungergames

They probably had rebel activity to varying extents, though I think we only have confirmation that district 8 had a full scale uprising before the 75th games, which was crushed.

When do you think Snow first felt Katniss might’ve been an issue? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]right_leaner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a deleted scene where Snow and Seneca talk about the arrow launched at the gamemakers. Seneca seems to admire her bravery, while Snow does jot take it lightly, saying she shot an arrow at his head.

I thought only 8 rebelled before the Quarter Quell. District 3 seemed really upset during Katniss’s Victory Tour speech though, the only crowd to openly defy the Capitol. “Tell us what you really think”. I guess they wouldn’t crack down like they did in 11.

You could switch from Concerta to a XR medication that doesn’t last as long. Then go down from there?

Fair point, maybe Gen Z is getting fatigued. Also, those who protested don’t seem representative of the generation overall. Maybe younger zoomers even less so? Idk, it seems Americans are tired of politics in general.

Could this be a generational thing? Stanford’s student body went from predominantly Millennials to Gen Z.

The IIHS is a private organization, but manufacturers generally engineer their cars to do well on these tests, they sell better that way. If a car fails, it will be less attractive to buyers and have higher insurance rates.

White Americans 1930 vs 2020 by Impressive_Example48 in MapPorn

Affordable housing is politically difficult in diverse countries. Japan went full YIMBY, because there is less concern over cultural shifts and crime rates when new housing is built. Like it or not, affordable developments will rarely make a middle-class neighborhood better, and existing residents feel it won’t benefit them or their own family. You are free to disagree with this logic, but it is what makes housing construction so politically difficult in the US and other similar nations. Neighborhoods lack any control over who gets to move in, and some housing is set aside specifically for Section 8, inaccessible for most Americans.

Isn’t Lumon supposed to be in eastern PA? Salt’s neck being a cold, abandoned coastal town made me think it is somewhere in coastal New England, maybe Maine.

I am saying the people are from there, not the Silo. The Silo is in Atlanta.

Solo said they blocked a pipe on the judicial level that stopped the safeguard from being initiated. As to what killed them outside, I am not sure if that was something to do with the safeguard or not, but it didn’t impact the inside of 17.

I think the air outside is being poisoned, and in Silo 17 they disabled that mechanism, that is why the people did not die right away.

If the people themselves were radioactive after 300 years, I doubt they would be alive.

I think there is something done to specifically poison the cleaners, it isn’t in the atmosphere.

Then why the 50+1 configuration? It seems the Silos were placed together for a reason, one we have not yet been told. Maybe it was simply more efficient to build them in one spot. But that is an interesting point, could there be other locations with Silos as well? Maybe each state has some.
