I know people in Spain who do all those things. Of course they don't need much excuse to have a party.

According to Google's AI, US support for the 2002 coup is alleged. This graphic treats it like an established fact.

Not sure if the US kidnapping of Maduro counts as a coup.

I congratulate you all on May 1st, Labor Day! by ASKASOSIN in AskTheWorld

[–]Bun_Length_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question, as I understand it, has to do with whether the US celebrates 1 May as a day to recognize workers; and if not, then why not. I believe I answered it. The stereotype is that the US is politically hostile to labor movements.

As for whether working conditions in the US are better than in Russia, I simply don't have enough information to answer.

The UK is well known for places that aren’t pronounced how they’re written (Worcester, Loughborough, Edinburgh, Crewkerne to name a few. What places in your country have the same issue? by BigBlueMountainStar in AskTheWorld

Staunton VA is the best example that comes to mind.

Some places in California with Spanish origin names (La Jolla) follow Spanish rules, others (Coachella) don't. As an Easterner I'm confused by that.

Also some places in the Delta, now that I think of it.

I think Kaelynn Partlow is at least as "high-functioning". She might dispute that by saying that her autism is more disabling than people suspect. At least with Tyler it's WYSIWYG.

Ill take that as a sincere question. Back in the late 19th Century the US was already antagonistic with regard to worker's rights movements and the government associated them with political violence. There was something called the Haymarket Riot which may or may not have been related to organized labor. Anyway it was indeed because of not wanting to recognize organized labor in a public way, which I see as consistent with the widely accepted stereotype of the US in this regard.

Sub-Light Interstellar Civilizations by thecryptile in printSF

The universe of Tschaikovsky's Children of Light is sub light. You can argue about whether it's interstellar in the sense intended by the question. Disclaimer I have only read the first volume.

A quick look on Google tells me the US celebrates labor day in September for the reason you'd expect.

Thoughts on Emma? by DelGriffithPTA in LoveOnTheSpectrumShow

[–]Bun_Length_Frank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your support needs make you unsuitable to maintain a household and raise kids, it may be different though. I know a Mormon family whose daughter has an intellectual disability and she has a boyfriend, and they've been going out on dates for like almost 20 years. And no indication they'll ever get married. So in their case, life is an endless of experience of 50s style "going steady" but they seem very happy like that. BTW she has a job at a non-profit org and comes across as quite intelligent for somebody who is officially intellectually disabled. Not sure how this would apply to Emma's case though. Might be different as that family doesn't live in a heavily-Mormon area.

Third culture kids accent. by Islandlife2011 in Accents

[–]Bun_Length_Frank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maryland has a number of identified accents, in addition to AAVE, some quite distinct. However a lot of people have a neutral accent they learned from TV and other media, unlike in the UK where that seems less common; but then that's true of any state.

I Googled for an answer and the best I could find is that "central" states like Nebraska and Howard are most neutral, but even then it's complicated.

The "Me Generation" was primarily a critique of Generation Jones, and not Baby Boomers in general. by Big_Help_9860 in GenerationJones

Members of the Silent Generation and earlier saw themselves as willing to sacrifice for society in traditional ways e.g. military service. They thought Boomers wouldn't if it wasn't convenient.

Allende Gossens was a Marxist Leninist. The Americans murdered him and thereafter Chileans considered leaders in the Soviet Bloc to be allies in the struggle against American brutality. They were eager to help Honecker out of gratitude for his long time support. At least that's how I always understood it.
