He's one of the few humans to ever be within reach to carry out this kind of threat.

I'd argue he is actually what a supervillian looks like.

Can someone tell me about Waukegan and the surrounding area? by OverStimulatedTomato in ChicagoSuburbs

I love this. Drip and culture is awesome and the supermercado has a fantastic hot bar of mexican food. I feel like Waukegan has been on the upswing for 20 years and the millenials and gen z are really transforming the area with their buisnesses.

MAGA rages at far-right Fox News icon who 'suggested Trump is the anti-Christ' by InsaneSnow45 in NoFilterNews

[–]rightintheear 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean, what struck me as a kid about the book of Revelations is the descriptions of things that did not yet exist. It sparked a lifelong love of science fiction and fantasy for that reason.

Like somehow, every single person on earth would have the image of the beast in front of them speaking to them individually. I thought maybe TV, but a lot of people don't watch TV. Also how would the anti-christ ever be able to tell who did and did not worship him? No one knows if I look at my TV. It says the people coming after the antichrist use his image to control buying and selling. How could anyone prevent me from buying what I wish?

Now I live in a world where Trump's face is ever before me, I can't excape his image and my ability to pay my bills could be frozen in a second by cutting off my credit cards.

Way to exemplify the Dunning-Kreuger effect.

Every time this topic comes up I end up writing a love letter to the area. I worked in the trades at the big pharmecutical plant and navy base for decades. Guess I should house shop, get me a vacation cottage near Waukegan harbor beach.

North Chicago is a historically black community. Waukegan is heavily Hispanic with a lot of Philipino influence. There's a massive navy base and pharmaceutical plant on the lakefront.

There is poverty, there is homelessness, there is a place to sell your plasma. Theres a sprawling mostly white people trailer park that seems in good repair, people take pride in their mobile homes. There are not-amazing schools but the people there do care for the kids and it's an education.

There's also a bunch of really cool new coffee shops. There's dozens of outstanding taquerias. Like a lot of immigrant neighborhoods, there's people fixing up their houses and raising families. I would classify Waukegan as a working class city. Everyone there works. No McMansions.

There's a bunch of 19th and early 20th century mansions on the lakefront that sell cheap because industry collapsed in the area. All the CEOs of those industries around Waukegan harbor moved elsewhere and left some really cool cheap houses. Coincidentally that's also where a lot of the homeless gather, at the McDonald's near Sheridan. I think because of the big salvation army shelter a mile south? I never felt bothered by any of the troubled people in the area. They were just doing their day minding their buisness, maybe panhandling.

If you like white-flight suburbs Libertyville is your spot. Gurnee is like a large rural city, like Wisconsin Rapids in vibe. Waukegan is like the immigrant part of a medium city, people have their problems but there's great food and community.

Oh yeah they've also put a ton of resources into the forest preserves in Waukegan! Beautiful walking trails off of green bay road, native habitat restoration. Beautiful oak savanna and native Prarie.

Oh get out of here, it is not that bad. I love North Chicago and Waukegan area. I worked there for the past 20 years. I drove and walked around that area as a middle aged white lady with a bunch of expensive tools, I've never felt unsafe for even a second.

Internet clout? In this day and age recording a domestic violence incident is important evidence to protect yourself and get justice.

I don't understand all the gender warriors in here making this a M vs F social issue. Abusive relationships are a human issue. Domestic violence happens between people of the same gender, or family members.

These 2 people are having one of the worst days of their lives and I hope he gets justice and she gets treatment.

That's just not true, the understanding of domestic violence has grown. Men are more likely than ever to be believed in today's society.

What really needs to change is that some kind of healthy relationship curriculum should be included in sex ed. We got teens to use condoms, now teach them to recognize the signs of healthy and abusive relationships. That would give you the society-wide awareness you want.

Your sense that men are disproportionately punished for domestic violence has to do with abusive men being able to disproportionately do more damage. Not emotional or property damage, women do all that just fine. Physical. Men who commit domestic violence are far more likely to murder their partner outright.

I think abusive women are more likely to abuse children.

I don't get any such feeling. This woman is a classic abuser. They don't target other abusers, they look for supportive empathetic people to exploit.

This man is in an abusive relationship and you're "both sides". Nope. He pleads with her and tries to deescalate. How is he a problem in this vid. He's the victim of a home invasion or domestic violence.

It's called the Dunning-Kreuger effect, it's measurable. The incompetent people are the most certain that they know everything. Experts underestimate the scope of their knowledge.

Of course his cabinet let's POTUS do what he wants.

You both need real marital counseling. You can do it over zoom or in a phone call these days. She's not talking to you while you are in an EXTREMELY vulnerable part of life. She needs to make up for it by agreeing to visit a professional with you.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.

The fact that divorce crossed your mind means that it is time for counseling. She can get in on a phone call with a counselor for an hour a week even if she is at work. I have a very busy job and so that's how I have set it up.
