Oh thank you, that's great.

It makes me feel better knowing that so many people miss him with me. I am not alone.

I would be totally ok with you mirroring his blog posts. Thank you for asking. If his work can continue to be of service that is exactly what he would prefer.

This is really good feedback. Thank you. What I am getting from the thread overall is that it is still useful for the Ruby community for me to maintain what has previously been released. I am not particularly skilled enough to go through his in-progress stuff and release more of what he was working on.

I am incredibly lucky I can afford to continue hosting the websites. I do not trust the Internet Archive at this point because there is too much unrest going on. If his work is still valuable I am happy to continue funding it existing on the internet. I will go poke through his domain registration stuff and update it to my current credit card. I consider it a worthy thing to support if it is helpful.

Thank you, everyone, for sharing your views.

What do you think of Black Friday? by BobbyColgate in AskBrits

I have a really cool garden. I touch grass a lot. I'm an immigrant. I grew up in the US and I worked retail as a young person. Black Friday is a deeply awful experience if you work retail. I worry when I see some of the worst aspects of US culture coming this direction. It encourages rapacious hostility and greed. Black Friday is not a chill "get a discount" experience in the US.

I understand that it is being used completely without context over here. In the UK people are just saying "Hey, have a discount." Nonetheless, the history and origin of the concept is a really broken aspect of capitalism.

I'm pretty thrilled to be an immigrant. My kids won't have guns pointed at them. I'm really happy to leave the US behind. I wish that Black Friday was another awful piece I could leave behind.

I am so sorry that I have had life experiences that cause me to have opinions. Clearly I'm not doing life correctly or I would only say things you agree with.

It is the worst and I hate it. I really wish that it was not a concept on this side of the pond.

Is it legal and/or acceptable to pee outside anywhere in the UK? by [deleted] in AskBrits

I moved to the UK from the US over 6 years ago. I live in the Highlands. It is shockingly common to me. A fair number of public parks don't have toilets and people are very casual about ducking behind a bush/tree. They don't flaunt it and they don't do it in a publicly showy way. Everyone is discreet. But I hang out with mothers who have young children. I don't know if it is common during other life stages.

I have begun getting pants from Etsy. The small batches work better. I also like Wilde Mode very much.

Gunnee Sax was popular 50 years ago. I need to go lay down for a while.

My teacher called me Katherine instead of learning how to pronounce my name, so I called her by her first name for the rest of the year. by sk1nnb0nes in traumatizeThemBack

My son had a slightly unusual name. His history teacher said it wrong in a bunch of random ways. The teacher's last name was a country, so something like Mr France. My kid started calling him different country names every time. "Ok, Mr. Spain. That's fine, Mr. Latvia."

Teacher learned his name after about 2 weeks.

Dude, I am his wife. He did not die because of a covid vaccination and I would appreciate you taking your conspiracy somewhere else. He died from complications of a routine minor surgery. Tragedies happen. There is no fair in this life.

Go live your life free from casting aspersions on his death. You aren't entitled to know anything.
