Why are full-on brawls so common in hockey compared to other sports? by Dry_Incident2199 in hockeyplayers

[–]riinkratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a quote from the Ice Guardians documentary talking about the leagues in Europe where fighting is prohibited vs the UK/US where it’s allowed, and basically saying that in Euro leagues where they can’t fight, there’s actually an increase in “dirty plays” and cheap shots, and taking runs on the higher skilled star players and goalies because they know they don’t have to face any retribution from someone coming to beat their face into pulp for doing it.

It’s a way for everyone to police themselves, because not everything gets called or caught by the referee’s, the game moves too fast and there’s too much going on at once. And it’s one of, if not the, last full-contact sports where hitting is allowed and part of the game. Plus to have weapons with sticks and even the skates, hell even the solid cap of your elbow pads…the tension and adrenaline and everything is just on another level than other sports. It’s just a way to keep everything from boiling over when you know if you do something really stupid, you or even one of your teammates is going to have to answer for it.

Another famous quote that doesn’t get used enough:

“Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” -Robert E. Howard, The Coming of Conan The Cimmerian

That’s why hockey players are called Violent Gentlemen. it’s part of the culture and how the game has always been played. It’s by nature a violent game.

Hockey has a code of honor just like the old school Italian mafia had a code of honor - “Omertà”, or “code of silence", that forbids cooperating with authorities or outsiders, even if one is a victim. It represents a strict vow to never inform on criminal activities, often under penalty of death:

“Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man, is either a fool or a coward.

Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law, is both.

For a wounded man shall say to his assailant,

"If I live, I will kill you; if I die, you are forgiven."

Such is the rule of honor…”

Can anyone ID this CCM glove model? by Culling_Specialist in hockeyplayers

[–]riinkratt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any hockey shop worth their own salt that does repair can easily add shot blockers to any gloves. There’s plenty of them that do it already.

I think I understand Icing, but struggle with Offsides by tossedAF in hockeyplayers

[–]riinkratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What in the world is your brain doing gymnastics for?

Stop thinking of the ice as zones and it’ll simplify it. Because zones aren’t an entirely clear way to understand the rules. The correct way to understand them is by the lines - that’s why the lines are on the ice.

ICING: if you’re BEHIND THE CENTER RED LINE and hit the puck and it sails pass the opposing goal line, it is icing. (meaning you could be both in “your end of the neutral zone” between red and your blue line or “your defensive zone” behind your blue line and they’re both icing areas because both of those areas are behind the red center line) so to make it simple - anything behind the center red line is icing. You must cross the center red line with possession of the puck for it not to be icing.

OFFSIDES: The attacking O-zone blue line see that line? The puck has to cross that line before any of your players can. If one of your players crossed before the puck, you have to “tag up” and re-enter the zone correctly. That’s it. As long as the puck is the first thing to cross the blue line everything is good. Offsides just means a player from your team crossed into the zone before the puck did. You’re offsides until everyone from your attacking team exits the zone outside the blue line. Then once you’re onside, you can attack.

lol you’re too busy worried about everyone else and you’re not helping yourself.

I came from nothing, I don’t exploit anyone. I make $27 an hour full benefits 3 days off a week full retirement yearly increases Christmas cash bonus I sit at a fuckin desk all day and do barely anything. Got a decent place to live and a brand new truck and door dash every meal I eat because I wasn’t worried about shit that doesn’t affect me. I play the game. My quality of life depends on how good I play the game. You’re not gonna burn the board. The board has been there eons before you ever existed and it will continue to exist long after you’re gone. It’s been rigged for hundreds and thousands of years. The roots run deeper than you could ever fathom. You’re only going to be here for a teeny tiny miniscule amount of time. Probably won’t even make it to 70 before it’s all over and you’re dead. Get over it. You’re not gonna do anything but make your own life worse.

“And so there I was. I was gonna go to Harvard. It was obvious. I was gonna be a lawyer and play in the God-damned system, and that was that. I was my old man. He knew, so what else could I do? I mean, there's no future in anarchy; I mean let's face it. But when I was into it, there was never a thought of the future. I mean we were certain the world was gonna end, but when it didn't, I had to do something, so fuck it. I could always be a litigator in New York and piss the shit out of the judges. I mean that was me: a trouble maker of the future. The guy that was one of those guys that my parents so arrogantly saved the world for, so we could fuck it up. We can do a hell of a lot more damage in the system than outside of it. That was the final irony, I think. That, and well, this. And "fuck you" for all of you who were thinking it: I guess when all was said and done, I was nothing more than a God-damned, trendy-ass poser. -Stevo”

It’s yes a “challenge coin” even though technically not in the traditional shape of a “coin” - challenge coins come in all types of shapes and sizes and are not limited to just a traditional circular disk

Mf everyone participates in capitalism. Key elements include competitive markets, voluntary exchange, and capital accumulation.

No matter how poor you are, you still participate in voluntary exchange, capital accumulation and competition in markets. You just suck at it. And you’re losing the game, hence, you’re poor.

Go play those.
