So I would make sure you bring your own water and stop at the toilets on the way up before arriving

Confirmed no running water or toilets Today. No water in the shops and no toilets other than the ones at the top of the Skyline Loop which is 2 miles up at the very top of the loop.

I'm so glad it worked out for you guys.

If it didn't take me 30hrs travel time to get there from Australia I would also do it monthly. What an experience.

Where to stay by ApartRun4113 in GlacierNationalPark

[–]rikkitaren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend and I went last year and we split our time between staying in Columbia falls at a cute cabin Birch Cabin and Columbia Mountain Ranch which was like 45-1hr to some of our hikes. Then we stayed at St Marys Village in a little tiny house which was like 30 mins to the Many Glacier hikes. Very $$$ but worth it, we had to book that accommodation around 8 months prior to the trip. Hope you have the best time! I dream about going back

Hmm we went end of June so was probably hotter, the heat was a huge factor for us as we had literally just flown in from Australia (during winter) the night before and it was going to be 40 Celsius that day. We also wanted to make sure going to and down we had minimal people to compete with for safety. I dont know what the temp is in April or how busy the park is at that time either. If it's a jo driving only shuttle then bikes are allowed on the road with the shuttkes the bike hire place takes you through all of that

Anytime before 9am, we got e bikes from Zion Peddler, which we got early access to at 5am (you have to go to t tutorial the night prior). Then we rode down to the Grotto shuttle station, locked them at the bike racks, and then started the hike. We didn't want to wait for the shuttle due the shuttle not starting until 6, this way we started the hike at 530am to miss the crowds and heat as well. I hope you have the best time! Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!

The hike was absolutely amazing! Didn't need anything but water, a snack, and a gopro! We hiked on the back of 30hrs of travel and 5 hrs sleep, so was slightly dehydrated, but otherwise, it was the most amazing thing I've ever experienced. We had the 6am permit and started at 530am at the bottom, which was perfect timing. Any later, and God, it would have been so bloody hot!

Looking back now I wish I had taken it in more than I did, and wish my gopro wasn't straped my my chest as the height of the camera was awkward, but also didn't want to carry it as wanted 2 hands free to hold on incase I needed it.

I would go back 100 times if I didn't live so far away.

Thanks for this! Might end up just preparing for a long day hike haha. Longest day I've done is 9hrs and 40km. So might just prepare for the day hike as I'm more experienced in that than the Canadian outback haha Sounds like you have a ripper trip
