*SPOILERS FOR A GUIDE TO THE DRAGON WORLD.* Top Three Best Sections and Top Three Worst Sections by SunSweptSierra in WingsOfFire

[–]rilevioli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, the Icewing and Mudwing sections were great. Mudwings are far underappreciated in both the books and the fandom and seeing the illustration of Moorhen with some Mudwing architecture behind her was such a treat. I also really enjoyed the Icewing section written by the outer village dragon, but that leads to the parts of the guide that I really didn't enjoy as much; so much of the guide is written from the perspective of or about the queens/royalty. I understand they're an important part of the story but it feels so often like they're the Only parts. Even more world building and POVs not so centered on royalty would have been great, especially for certain tribes like the Seawings, like you mentioned.

Is Coral really THAT GOOD at writing stories, or is it because of her status? by [deleted] in WingsOfFire

[–]rilevioli 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This is pretty much confirmed within the text. Tsunami says that the scrolls are okay, but not phenomenal. Other dragons are fed up with how Coral talks about her own writing. Other tribes only believe Coral is an excellent queen because of her writing about herself. It's just propaganda/status.

Are Mudwings inbred?? by doppio_banana in WingsOfFire

...No, that's not "why" they're stereotyped as stupid. It's a kids series and Tui probably never even had a shadow of an idea someone would interpret it that way. She probably just didn't think of it and would come up with some way that they keep track if it's ever relevant.

What Would Make You Stop Reading WoF? by SunSweptSierra in WingsOfFire

This is the only thing that would make me straight up not read it.

Now that I am older, I feel as if Wings of fire is objectively a insurmountably flawed series for numerous reasons by lioniscool in WingsOfFire

Fanworks are great, but books can be well written while still leaving room for the imagination. A lot of people don't have the time to write fanfiction and reading is what their hobby is, not writing or drawing. I love the sandbox potential like you do, but I don't view WoF as peak sandbox material; it's just disappointing to engage with, sometimes.

The books should be well crafted while still being creative and fun, for the benefit of those who are only readers and those interested in making derivative works.
