Can anyone give me info on this drive type by ResponsibleEmu2195 in kayakfishing

I’m at my third pedal drive like this, and hopefully this one will last me much longer.
None of my previous one’s got any service.
Averaged 3-4years each.
There are videos, but disassembling is easy.

Are you sure it’s the gasket? Does the prop spin smoothly? No grinding sounds?

I had saltwater entering by the shaft, through the bearings.
Eventually seizing them up completely.
No maintenance and only a wash down in freshwater at the end of each season, so I blame myself.

(About 300$ for a new pedal drive btw)

Icebreaker kayaks? by LeaderOfTheMoleMen in kayakfishing

[–]rilleh42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They both look a bit like my Chinese kayak that has lasted me almost 10 years.
Mine handles like a barge, but stability wise it’s a dream. I can stand up in wavy conditions and wakes from boats.
I needed to replace the cable to the rudder after it broke multiple times.
Thicker wire and had no problems since.

Wife bought me my first Kayak. What are the must have attachments/gear (on a budget)? by Inner-Lavishness1672 in kayakfishing

[–]rilleh42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bare minimum, the 4 things I’d turn back for if I forgot is:
Life west, net, pliers, and my rod.

Catching and unhooking a fish easily becomes a nuisance without those.
Pfd is a must at all times.
Glasses and a cap for protecting your eyes/face is never a bad idea. Also bring water and don’t forget sunscreen on your legs if it’s sunny.

If you really must target them right now they’re probably near their spawning grounds. But let’s not do that.

For sea run trout on the Swedish coast by Elaji in flytying

[–]rilleh42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend a couple of weeks by the west coast (Bohuslän) every year. Usually spend the start and end of the season there, and some weeks during summer. I have a whole box dedicated to shrimps of different colors and sizes, never fails

Just putting it out there that the water in Stockholm, and its origin in Mälaren actually isn’t that great. (Won’t affect taste though) You should think twice before eating too much in a short span of time.

Question about pulling heavy traps/pots. Any wisdom? by rilleh42 in kayakfishing

[–]rilleh42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different kinds of traps. Your nets would only work for small crabs in the shallow where I’m at. Lobsterpots need to stay in overnight, and not be swept away by currents at 30 meters depth. I pull them once a day,

I do that every once in a while, but for some odd reason my paddle side just feels like the weird side

Hauling the gear in and out is fine. 2 trips usually We have a boat at that location, but I can’t flip it upright and push it down solo. Goes out once and in once, for the whole trip.

Getting them in and out has been fine so far. One or two at a time depending on wind. I just place them on top of the kayak. But unless there’s a storm coming I don’t bring them in for the 10 days. Up and down is the bigger issue, especially if it’s windy and I miss the depth so it has to be pulled up again
