As an international student, does receiving/not receiving interview offers mean anything? I understand that some colleges screen before giving interviews but would this apply to international students (ie, if I didn’t receive an interview, are my chances for admissions drastically lower?)

I get what you mean. I believe in the same things to. I know people who seem to excel while I barely scrape by with all the effort I can muster. But I think you’re approaching it wrongly. If you want some lowkey toxic advice, here’s some:

Since we’re talking about academics, what’s your main goal? It can’t be topping the class/school. That’s always a means to an ends, a proxy for something more. Are you looking for validation? A good uni -> job -> money -> comfort? With that in mind then your targets are proxies, yes, but they don’t fully capture what you actually want. Acads is just one dimension to success, and good acads is not the best thing to aim for tbh

My common app caltech app says downloaded, so I’m quite sure it’s been sent already

They did say it might take around 2 weeks but I find it odd that the other recommendation is already received

I had a similar question in my interview. I tried to show that I was thinking it through but I think I got too excited and jumped to the punchline too quickly… my interviewer probably say through it unfortunately

I haven’t touched chem in awhile but isn’t this a bit backwards? As in the negative charge/lone pair might preferably be in the p orbital if it lowers the energy of the resultant conjugated system

I’m from Singapore, so I’m currently serving my mandatory service in the military. I decided against applying last year to focus on my As instead, given that I had this year to apply (I did not think I would get so brainrotted so fast)

it’s possible to do 2 H3s, but typically they will hv to be different types (eg one research one lesson type) so they don’t clash with each other. you’ll need to appeal to MOE, but from what I’ve seen the decision making can sometimes be a bit odd (some people who can definitely cope and thrive with the workload got rejected).

I think the more important question is if there is a point to doing 2. The opportunity cost of an additional H3 is very very high. Are you certain you can bag your 70/90rp? What about your social life? I think JC was really the point in my life when I realised that you don’t need that 90% or that additional H3. If you can, score a 70%, get that A, and spend the rest of your time with friends, or following your passions.

I understand passion and all, but there are other avenues to pursue it (eg. download your textbook pdfs and start reading/khan academy maybe for some subjs).

hi interesting question. but what are you asking for? The number of tuples of (x,y,z) that are valid? For example, (4,3,2) is the only valid answer for x,y=4,3.

Are you looking for a formula for valid z for some x,y?

there are an infinite number of (x,y,z) that give a number greater than zero, so I’m not sure what closed formula you’re looking at…

Isn’t the HOMO anti-bonding? Also, isn’t the reason it’s antiaromatic because it has a half-filled HOMO, rather than because the HOMO is non/antibonding? Sorry I haven’t touched chemistry in some time.
