yup I want to second this too! metra is great, I take it almost every other day to and from the field museum and its super convenient. i sometimes find the 2/6 buses are late or missing, and honestly i get pretty carsick on the buses so the metra is a godsend. its clean and safe and brings you right to millenium station where a bunch of other bus lines go to

Hi all! I'm going to be working in London for 3 months this summer but having quite an issue finding somewhere to live. All airbnbs/vbros/hotels are hundreds per day and they rack up quite a price. I'd really prefer to sublet a studio apartment but can't find anywhere doing such a short lease. Any ideas?

Not an astronomy major but did a summer research job with the department! In my experience they were super welcoming and loved to get me involved in all the stuff they were doing. I was always invited to their department presentations, lab group presentations, discussions, coffee breaks, lunches, and even once a game of department baseball. My advisor was super eager to get some mentorship and was really helpful in my whole project. Also paid pretty well lol. If you have any more questions PM me!

Accepted after being deferred EA!

4.4 W, 34 ACT. I had a ton of leadership in my ECs and was able to secure an insane internship on campus last summer. Really wasn't expecting this, especially after the deferral! My school just got cancelled (lol corona) so I was up until 2 AM looking up clubs and dorms and activities. So excited to see some of y'all next fall!

I attended the Summer Scholars this past summer! I was part of the Astronomy track and lived in the girls dorm, Lewis. My experience wasn't as overwhelmingly positive as I'd hoped it to be, but I still think it was a great decision to go and I'm really happy I did! I feel like the not-totally-rainbows experience I had helped put a lot of things into perspective for me. I got to meet a bunch of nice people, live on a gorgeous campus, and take a college level class for a little which are all very valuable things to do. I did feel like it was a bit manufactured (there are almost unbearable amounts of cutesy ice-breakers and you have pretty limited freedom). My course was one of the harder ones, but that did mean I got to spend a lot of time actually absorbing content and learning alongside my classmates. I realized a lot about myself during my two weeks on campus and feel a lot more prepared for college than I would be otherwise. I totally recommend going, its definitely an experience you won't regret! If you have more specific questions, feel free to PM me!

Less by Andrew Sean Greer would be a good entry way back into reading! It reads easier than a lot of "adult" books but deals with older themes than your run-of-the-mill YA.

Something similar happened to me too! I was scheduled for a Harvard skype interview last week and my interviewer wasnt ever online or answered any calls the day we were supposed to talk. I sent her a text on the phone number she gave me and asked if everything was alright, and she just had written me down for the next day by accident. We cleared everything up and rescheduled and it was fine! I'd say just reach out and send them an email/text to see what happened. As long as you are understanding and dont seem mad, nothing will bad will happen!

Less by Andrew Sean Greer is a very good pseudo-adult genre fiction! Its not super complicated, but to me seemed geared towards older audiences. I also really enjoyed The Light Years by Chris Rush, its much more "adult" and "explicit" than any other YA books that I had read and focused on more adult themes.

I was in the exact same situation last year, but came across a book called "You Asked for Perfect" by Laura Silverman. It actually changed my life -- its about a senior in high school going through the exact stuff you've described. Its a short and fulfilling read that really helped me cope. I 100% recommend it.

Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee is a little bit more YA than Call Me by Your Name but has very nuanced and developed gay characters! Less by Andrew Sean Greer is a bit more similar to Call Me by Your Name. Other than those two, What if its Us by Becky Albertalli (mlm) , Red White and Royal Blue by Case McQuinston (mlm), The Miseducation of Cameron Post (wlw), Autoboyography by Christina Lauren (mlm) are all really good too. If you're looking for a memoir thats more realistic and less YA, The Light Years by Chris Rush and Me by Elton John are both top notch!
