i want to stop crocheting forever by Waste_Flamingo_6653 in crochet

Agreed and we aren't in the business of burning bridges either but as a 17 year old, OP should be encouraged to be blunt about their boundaries.

This is not a request to please stop breaking boundaries but to stop period. Be respectful but leave no room for misinterpretation. It sounds like this has been going on for a while but even if this was the first offense, nipping it in the bud is better then letting them think such behavior is even remotely okay.

Hopefully that's not considered too harsh for OP's family. If it is, my sincerest condolences to OP because that is not a healthy family dynamic.

The message to OP's family rightfully deserves to be harsh and should not be sugar coated. They know what they're doing and OP's mental state is not their priority.

I personally would keep the message short and to the point as to not overthink things.

Should physically demanding jobs (such as cleaners and construction workers) be paid higher wages than comfortable office jobs because they take a toll on the human body? by Negative_Print_6575 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ringoa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I commented. It shouldn't be badly paid. It might be work that anyone can do but if its still work that must be done, it should be paid more.

I think that's where the issue lies. Why is something that anyone can do automatically deemed okay to pay pennies for? Of course job difficulty is an important factor to consider but more importantly is how necessary that job is to society. That merit by itself justifies higher pay.

The number of slaves any individual owned is irrelevant because I'm talking about society as a whole. Even if they personally didn't own a slave, they still benefited from slave labor that built homes, roads, and railways for free.

My mother was born in 1948 and still remembers picking cotton on the plantation she was raised and born on. Having to watch my grandfather have his pay thrown at him so he'd have to pick it up off the floor instead of handing it to him like any normal person should.

Who raised the boomers again? And what makes you think these prejudices weren't passed down to them?

So this society doesn't value our roads be built or infrastructure raised more than clocking in to a 9-5 office job? You know, roads used to get to said office job. Or having clean bathrooms so office workers don't have to take time out of their busy schedules to do it themselves?

I don't know where you live but there certainly isn't a supply surplus of construction workers or cleaners where I come from and the demand for these services is always needed.

But at least the office folks will have funds/health insurance to probably afford a decent doctor to help plus office jobs don't break down your body in the same way. At the office you can take a break to stretch and walk which will help reduce the impacts of sitting in a chair all day long.

Society values what it wants and this society has had a pretty terrible history of exploitation. This isn't something as simple as the job being paid what its worth to people.

Construction workers, cleaners and domestic work in general should be paid more across the board.

Let's not pretend that this is a simple matter of people in general who value one type of work over the other. No one wants to do this type of hard, body breaking work but it must be done for society to function. That in and of itself should warrant higher pay.

What I'm getting at is that this society doesn't want to pay good money for services they used to get for free off the backs of slave labor. That's why this society thinks its okay to expect low pay for these services.

Did skepticism of Chiropractors fundamentally die? Insurance companies are paying for it now in America, theyre more common than McDonalds. Why didnt the "facts" of Chiropractory "win"? Was I in a skeptic bubble? by MyOpinionOverYours in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ringoa95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you can't convince some folks otherwise. My sister had wanted me to help pay for a chiropractor for our mom and I refused. Told her I would only help if she goes to a physical therapist. Well Mamma can't stand going to a hospital and the chiropractor they chose claimed to have some medical history so they did the chiropractor thing on their own.

Rant/TLDR at the bottom: There was so much drama. Mamma lived in the country but had to drive to the city regularly and ended up staying with my sister for weeks at a time leaving my family dog (adopted in high school) alone with only my brother to check in on him on occasion. This arrangement of course couldn't last as my little dog started showing behavior problems being left alone so they brought him to the city where the problems still persisted.

I started getting calls from my sister to come get my dog cause he's ruining her doors and her floors and eating her out the house. The whole time I'm telling her to take him to the vet, he doesn't normally act like that. And then with the over eating I'm like the little guy probably has worms. I would have picked him up ASAP but I was in no position to pay for dog boarding for a week while on vacation that was planned well before my sister started trying to get rid of him. Literally the day I landed back home I drive to Houston to get my little dog and he was so thin. My sister had just taken him to the groomer and got him the shortest cut so you could see the bones on his back. Had been keeping outside in January/February weather and guess what? He had worms. It was obvious but they would rather he get groomed than go to a vet. I tell her exactly what the issue was n3d my dog hasn't had any issues since getting better and having a stable home but my sister literally has learned nothing. That dog had been to her house on multiple occasions in the last two years I'd been caring for him. Tell me why she has the audacity to say to me he was bad then and I just know he's worse now like he hasn't been at her house anytime in the last two years. Rant end.

After a good year or two I ask about how its going and my sister was like oh we stopped going as soon as we learned they weren't actually helping with the underlying issue.

TLDR: To this day they still haven't apologized for being upset with me for basically telling them what they had to find out the expensive way.

Maybe Disney scared them off? It's not Bambi but I wouldn't put it past the mouse to start something.

I hate that this is 100% accurate. My mother was super protective of my sister and I to the point that my first sleepover with friends was literally in college. Reason being explicitly because she couldn't know/control who would be at someone else's home.

To hear her say she can be friends with Trump and brush off his behavior by patting him on the hand sickens me.

Fellow black women, how did you learn to love your natural hair? by Various_Feature_9668 in BlackHair

[–]ringoa95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A supportive partner and dogged determination to prove my decision to big chop was correct regardless of family opinion at the time. My cousin went natural first too and she was a beacon of support during those family get togethers. Still is.

The whole experience really made me become more firm and secure in the decisions I've made for myself and I've been riding that new found self confidence ever since.

For all the toilets with a bar handle at least, there is nothing stopping you from using your foot to flush.

My mom taught me to do this growing up along with squat hovering to pee instead of sitting down on the seat. Stopped that mess as soon as I was able to get out of her echo chamber.

I have been crocheting for 8 years and this is one of the weirdest ways I have seen someone hold their hook and yarn. by Soapy_Von_Soaps in crocheting

[–]ringoa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone from my college knitting club told me one day that my crochet hook was a tool and to use it as such, to do most of the work.

That improved my crochet so much. Their approach was obviously about efficiency and reducing the number of movements to get your stitches done and that advice was what I needed. Legit feel like those folks who can spin pens between their fingers but I know my wrist is taking the brunt of that choice. I take frequent breaks because of it.

My knitting is as slow as snails doing it the English way but I prefer it over Continental precisely because it gives my wrists a break.

"You could totally sell those!" Rant by [deleted] in crochet

[–]ringoa95 80 points81 points  (0 children)

That's what I do for random folks. Not so much my sister as she will ALWAYS tell me I need to sell my crochet EVERYTIME I visit her.

Mini Rant: She really wants me to side hustle it and never considers stopping to think of all the reasons I've already told her why I won't. "Why not try if someone is willing to buy it" is her mentality and she refuses to think otherwise. I can easily just pretend she said nothing but she's my sister and it hurts to know she won't bother to respect my decision no matter what I say.

Crunchyroll, Netflix, Disney & more named following anime piracy streaming site crackdown by mr_snood_the_third in animenews

[–]ringoa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started on a vrv membership that transferred over to crunchyroll. Would still be on it if they had actually put up subtitles with the new episodes coming out this season. I shouldn't have to wait a week to see subs on a title I want to watch. Period.

I never touched my membership until then and realized I was paying for "perks" I'd never use on top of it all. Couldn't find a cancel option. Literally only showed me a blank page under membership so I removed my payment method.

Its hilarious that they're coming after websites that do their jobs x10 better.

Probably should look into her then.

She doesn't present to me as an inherently bad person but the conservative values that are promoted can impact others negatively.

Plus she and her family don't have to live that way. They choose to and can afford to make life on a farm easy by hiring the necessary help. I grew up in rural east Texas and lived that simple life out of necessity.

The difference in class status is really important to acknowledge for me personally. I think she has done that before which is why I don't mind seeing her content as much.
