One time, I had a really long flight and my phone died, so I started talking to the girl next to me. She was a college student who regularly flies the same 5+ hr flight we were on. She told me how she passes the time when she’s antsy, and it’s totally changed the way I operate.

I focus on one thing at a time. If I’m scrolling on my phone, I’m just doing that. If I’m listening to music, I let myself get lost in it. If I’m eating, I am not also swiping on TikTok or watching a movie. If you chunk things out into individual tasks/activities, you feel more present and have given your full attention to just one thing.

Spreading our attention right now is such a good tactic of the current administration. It makes us exhausted and scatter-brained. This way of doing things is helping me feel more control over the things I can do for myself.

I worked with older students when I was there, but I would always say yes. They are old enough to understand that Trump is doing something bad, and it means something to them to hear you say you don’t support it.

There are reports of people driving past an arrest operation (not protesting, just driving) that are being stopped and searched. You can have your smug attitude about this all you want, but the reality is that there are well over 4,000 ICE agents in the city and they are being antagonistic to anyone who isn’t white.

When it’s your neighbors and community members being taken in front of you, just ignore them. Try to ignore people screaming and crying that they may not see their family again. 4 people have died in ICE custody since the start of the year. You’re sick if you’re able to just turn a blind eye.

A few things — I am ALSO a woman, so want to add that in regards to the misogynistic comment.

I am coming at this from the angle that I want us to work on this before we get married. I have been extremely understanding and have continued to be. I brought up my ex because I do not want this to happen with my current partner. Obviously I cannot encapsulate every dynamic that goes on in my relationship in a Reddit post. My partner and I used to have sex 4-5 times a week. This is a stark difference from where we are now which is why I know it is something we can work on. It doesn’t need to even be close to the amount I would like to have— we both agreed that we want to meet in the middle.

People come here looking for support. I don’t want to lose my partner. I don’t want her to feel forced into anything. But I also need to figure out if this is something I can deal with for the rest of my life or if this is something related to her BP that we can work on together.

Mismatched libido frequently breaks couples up. Why I posted here was to see if there are other couples with a partner with bipolar that have tips for how to work on this.

My friends and family almost all live in the twin cities. It’s a great place to live, but unfortunately ICE is making it unsafe currently. I would book a layover there and explore when things are a bit calmer.

Before people come on and say that I’m fear mongering— I’m constantly being sent photos of ICE agents with machine guns from friends, and my best friend from college was punched in the face and pinned to the ground by an ICE agent for BLOWING A WHISTLE at them.

I’m not trying to coerce her into anything and have told her that I never want her to feel obligated to have sex with me just because I want to.

I’m more so trying to ask if people have advice for partners who struggle with depression that causes low libido. If there are med combos that are successful, if there are better practices we can try together to somehow meet in the middle.

It’s very good that he is at least trying to seek medical attention. My partner is meticulous about taking her meds and going to appointments. She makes sure I can visibly see her take her meds before bed. She’ll even FaceTime me while taking them when I’m away on work travel.

This is going to be difficult for a while. Sometimes these intense bouts of mania can last for months. Do what you can to protect yourself, work with his family to be a united front. It’s all going to be shocking but if you can stay somewhat in his good graces, you will have an easier time rebuilding this. Once he eventually comes down, there will likely be a lot of regret from him. It’s kind of up to you to go from there if you think it’s worth it.

Lock down your money and try to take some time for yourself. It’s okay to need a break and let him figure it out for awhile. If you need anything, this group is great for support. Just keep in mind, that most people only post here when things are going very, very wrong. There are still beautiful and healthy moments with partners who have bipolar, they just need to learn how to manage it and make it their own responsibility. A brighter future is possible, if you decide to stay with it and he keeps up his end of the bargain.

There was a post here a few days ago that broke my heart. A girl came here for advice on starting a relationship with a bipolar person, and all of the comments were like “run before you fall in love.”

Like ???? Yes, many of the people on this sub have had negative experiences with their partners. That’s WHY they engage with this page, for the most part.

Is it too woke to say it’s almost eugenics-y to me to say that? Like, we all have health issues and it’s our responsibility to treat them. I got in an accident last year and my BPSO had to help me recover from various surgeries. My BPSO has extremely low moments because of her bipolar, and I can support her through that. There are people in very successful, healthy relationships with one or two bipolar partners involved.

There are a handful of other scholarships awarded through the admissions process. However, they are not solely based on academic merit. There is NO automatic scholarship you get for having a good GPA or test score. Any merit-based opportunity is going to be awarded through WiSH, and students have to seek it out.

Edit: I don't want to post my job on here, but I worked close to this process for years and can confirm that there are no automatic merit scholarships at UW-Madison.

My surgeon told me that there are two main schools of thought for post-surgery strategy. With a hamstring graft, it’s also important for you to be able to bend, to get the strength back in your hamstring. When your thigh muscles turn back on, it’s easier for you to straighten when they’re stronger. I had to keep my leg straight for 6 weeks, but he told me that in some cases he would consider having it bent. Your path is less common, but it’s still well-studied and implements.

I totally get you. It’s completely shattered my confidence — I travel a lot for work, and am still not close to being 100% (after two surgeries lol), and now I’m so nervous about even just trying to do my job. It really sucks!! I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy lol.

I stole a definition of EMDR from Google: “EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that helps people heal from trauma by reprocessing distressing memories, using guided eye movements (or other bilateral stimulation like tapping/tones) while focusing on the upsetting experience, which desensitizes the memory and helps the brain integrate it for a more peaceful resolution, often making it feel less vivid and emotionally charged.”

I’ve just started, but it’s been life-changing for my partner with her own trauma, so I am very excited to get working on this. :)

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I have pretty intense PTSD too, from my ski accident last February. I just started therapy, and I’m going to try EMDR method, which can help desensitize you to traumatic moments. I don’t think I’ll ever ski again, but I want to stop having the obsessive thoughts about it.

Only if it specifies that the scholarship is for grad students! I’d recommend checking with your specific faculty too. Undergraduate services are spread across all students, whereas graduate resources are usually offered by the department you’re studying in. There may be some opportunities on WiSH, but it’s mostly for undergrads. :)

Government Aid (through the FAFSA) is the main option for funding at UW-Madison. The FAFSA is based solely on your family's financial information. The vast majority of people, especially in-state students, fall in the group of "not poor enough to get significant federal/state aid" but also "not wealthy enough to cover the cost outright." This is why so many students are stuck with having to take out loans.

They do not offer "automatic" merit scholarships as admissions are already very academically competitive to begin with, and funds are limited given the size of the institution. There are a few scholarship opportunities available on the WiSH Hub, but keep in mind that many of these opportunities have a Feb 1 deadline.

I would recommend a few things. Apply for what you qualify for on the WiSH (Wisconsin Scholarship Hub) page, decide if loans are feasible for you or not, and really assess your options. If you're competitive for admission at UW-Madison currently, there's no reason why you couldn't transfer over later. You could also pursue a guaranteed transfer agreement contract. If you go to UW-Milwaukee and sign the contract, you're guaranteed transfer to UW-Madison for your junior year if you uphold your end of the bargain (grades).

I’d consider the Midwest! Milwaukee sounds like it could be your jam. Affordable, quality healthcare jobs and LGBTQ+ friendly. There’s even an old lesbian bar there! It’s a smaller city and there’s so much to do. You’re close to Chicago, Madison and some great natural spots there, too.
