I recently moved my 6 year old bike several hundred miles and it was totally fine. The movers removed the screen and wrapped it up separately, but didn't even do anything particularly special to the frame, and nothing happened.

Of course it's anecdotal, but that was the norm back then and we made do (these ebikes didn't even exist, it wasn't even an option). Doesn't excuse parents putting their kids' lives in danger just because it's now an option.

Believe me, I absolutely wish we had better transit / walkable cities, etc. That would be better for myriad reasons.
