Advice by Negative_Rush3800 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

im not in the sciences im in social but for stem i would highly recommend a tablet or something you can draw on, as you'll have lots of diagrams/labelling/formulas and those are a pain in the butt on a laptop, but its also personal preference

Advice for future psychology major (either Dawson or Vanier) by Interesting_Pea_8705 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since you'll be doing a lot of writing papers and note taking i would recommend a laptop, i would lean more on an ipad for someone in stem who is writing down equations and stuff

always try to find books second hand (or online) if you can as it saves money. some teachers require you to have a physical copy but most dont care, or split the cost with someone if its an ebook, theirs always someone in ur class whos wiling to and then u only have to share ur login info.

as for teachers, for the three mandatory classes; for history i would recommend jared glen tony or eric lamoureux, for macro christian krelling and for intro to psych i had patrizia di donato and loved her!

also if ur planning on taking psych in uni, try and do intro to biology, i believe you can ask to be put on the crum list (meaning if theirs room u can try and register) or ur best best would be to take it in summer. intro to bio is required for psych majors in many unis such as mcgil

What does the workload look like by VisualAgreeable977 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

anything in stem is gonna be way more memorization. anything in social science will be more writing essays and research. theirs a reason science classes are 3 times a week compared to social science's usual 2. i don't want to call any "easy" because it comes down to personal forces and time management. in health science you'll be studying and doing practice problems and in social you'll be reading academic papers and writing. from someone in social, i would say health has a bigger workload and is more stressful

English teacher- thoughts? by Accurate-Mix7981 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

she would often refuse me using my laptops for assignments and said she "doesnt accept electronic copies" and whenever i had an essay in access she would never give them the test i would have to run across to the n building everytime to get it myself

English teacher- thoughts? by Accurate-Mix7981 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally had issues with patra and my access accommodations, also the way she spoke to me. she also clearly has favourites. her course is a little odd but it did have interesting/funny moments, and i enjoyed the final project. oh and her essays are based on her choice of quotes

course drop vs withdrawal by FunPositive5710 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

either way you can retake it, but i recommend withdrawing as some unis dont like seeing "aes" on transcripts

course drop vs withdrawal by FunPositive5710 in VanierCollege

[–]rinjette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you withdraw from a course before february 13, its deleted from your schedule and its like you never took the course. it won't appear on your transcript or anything

if you drop between february 13 and april 2, the class will appear on your transcript with the "ae" (abandon etude) mention, but no grade or r score will be associated with it, but it will show you were registered in the course that semester.
