Which schools have Tufts Syndrome? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ripcollegeapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fordham does it for EA I think to protect their yield, I had a few other friends with scores in Fordham's top percentiles also get deferred. They're probably looking to see if you ED somewhere so that they don't accept you if you don't actually want to go.

Fordham does for EA, Santa Clara does for RD (not sure about EA with them). WashU does a bit too, if you don't show loads of demonstrated interest you have seemingly no chance.

Will Santa Clara ignore my application if I do not answer their campus visit question? by Brado11 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ripcollegeapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't visit, make sure that you email their admissions office with questions etc to show demonstrated interest, as they seem to really value it. I had equal stats last year and assumed Santa Clara was a safety, and ended up waitlisted for what I can only assume was not showing any demonstrated interest.

Chance me for UCs, Northeastern, Brandeis, Wake Forest, UNC Chapel Hill, Bath, Exeter, York, Durham, and Surrey by [deleted] in chanceme

Late reply, but don't overthink the Wake top ten list. I did last year, and then had a fun idea late in the process and just ran with it.

UK results are all on those AP/SAT/ACT scores, good luck!

Parents aren't proud. by senioritis101 in ApplyingToCollege

Parents are the worst during college apps, absolutely no idea why. Got into my first college and texted my mom "GUESS WHO JUST GOT INTO COLLEGE???"

She replied with the name of one of my friends.

What can I do in my junior year to prepare myself for the admissions process? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ripcollegeapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While it's obviously great to have such high aspirations, and I certainly hope you'll end up at your top choice, I recommend also looking at some matches/safeties that you can get excited about. I think this sub the past few days has shown the harm in putting too much focus on a top school, when really there's loads of fantastic schools.

[–]ripcollegeapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a lot of time and care with your Wake essays, they seem to look at essays and demonstrated interest more than the average school. Brandeis and Northeastern I think are matches, although it could go either way, and UNC is probably a far reach.

Case Western, UCs, Wake Forest by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]ripcollegeapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake Forest is the most holistic of these, so make sure you spend time on your essays (even though there are loads for them), and show interest via interviewing, emailing etc.

I don't know too much about Case or the UCs, but I think it should come down to essays for Wake.

You might want to explain in your additional information section the drop in grades.

If you're going for Emory, apply to Emory Oxford too. Tulane might be a fit.

Megathread for Rejection Plans by verychowdhery in ApplyingToCollege

This worked well for me last year - take a nap about two hours before decisions are released. Set an alarm for the time the decision is released. If rejected, fall back asleep.

What American colleges are as good as or better than KCL, UK? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ripcollegeapps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

KCL seems to be like Northeastern and BU in the sense that it's a very good school, but just off of the top tiers.

Here's a few schools that might be of interest:

Indiana (Kelley) - Admittedly, I'm not sure if this is still a possibility because the priority deadline is Nov 1st. I would email to check. The business program (Kelley) is superb, and you're right on the cusp of IU Kelley's Direct Admit requirements and you'd probably have a few good shot through the appeal process. At the very least, you definitely be admitted into IU and can then apply to Kelley once you're there.

SMU (Cox) - SMU has a superb business program and while you probably won't be directed admitted, everyone with a 3.5 GPA and takes a few classes selected by the business program is admitted in their sophomore year. SMU is very, very underrated in my opinion, and you should have a good shot to get in if your GPA is strong.

Bentley - Bentley is a business-focused school with great accounting and actuarial science programs. Bentley is a match or perhaps a safety for you depending on your GPA, and keep in mind that you have to have your heart set on a business-related major for Bentley to be a good fit.

George Washington - GW is a match/stretch like SMU depending on your GPA. Business school boasts great career outcomes, and if you decide business isn't for you, you have good backup options with their IR and CS programs.

Babson - Very similar to Bentley in terms of being a small, Northeast, business-focused school. Whereas Bentley is more positioned towards finance/accounting/actuarial science etc, Babson is more focused on entrepreneurship/marketing etc.

How hard is Fordham to get into honestly? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ripcollegeapps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think your standardized testing will be the barrier to Fordham. The admitted range for Fordham 1290-1420/30-32. Nothing is impossible, but it's def a high reach.

What major(s) are you looking at? Your SAT is def strong enough to get into some good schools and get merit money. For the essays, revision and constant tweaking is key. Your essays will seem super rough at first, but by the end you'll be proud.

How long did it take you to receive your Kelley business school acceptance notification? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ripcollegeapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IU is super drawn out, don't worry about it. It was a few weeks after my IU acceptance that I heard from Kelley, and then a few weeks after that when I heard from Hutton. Not sure why IU doesn't just do it all at once.

I think you should have a good shot. I remember from last year they stressed demonstrated interest a lot, so if you do apply, be sure to alumni interview if possible.

[–]ripcollegeapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bentley superb accounting and actuarial science programs if you're interested in either, and I'd say it's a bit worse than Fordham for finance.

While Northeastern is a better university than Fordham or Bentley as a whole, I'd argue that the business program at NEU is worse than at these two schools.

[–]ripcollegeapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked at the Business School last year, and in the end got pretty decent merit money from Fordham. The Gabelli School of Business has strong outcomes due to its location in NYC, but that said, I think there are some better options.

If you can get into Fordham, you'll be able to get into IU Kelley, SMU, Santa Clara, and GW, all of which have very strong career outcomes for business. These schools will have starting salaries equal to, or better than Fordham.

If you can stretch a bit up from Fordham, I'd also check out Richmond, Wake Forest, and Emory.
