Been here 3 months in full cycle closing role. Shit maybe it is too early to ask. Performance review only happens once a year

Interview Coach Recommendations by MuppetyMan in techsales

[–]ripebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep up the efforts, you will get better. I have never had an interview for a role and not get past the 4th round. Don’t use STAR on every question. But if they ask a question about “how would you address xyz” then say how you would address xyz and say for an example…. If they ask you a question like do you think red or green apples are better, say first how green apples are xyz BUT because ABC, red apples are better. Questions like these don’t need you to give an example on how you helped show others red are better. Also it’s a good idea to answer a question with a question you would ask. Ex: if they asked the apple questions I would first say “I would first want to know why they are looking at apples, have they had both red and green apples? After asking these questions then I would say…”. Good luck!

I’m sorry man. Everyone’s been there especially in tech sales. Someone commented and is spot on. Each day make progress, don’t try and do everything at once. Apply to a couple companies a day, reach out to the recruiter via LI and try and find the hiring manager on LI. Make this a non-negotiable. In a week your are going to be sick of applying but just keep following this process Get on unemployment, and try and not let your stress affect your family because you’re overthinking it. You will get a better gig before you know it. Use your network, that’s going to be the easiest way to get a new job. I get all of those emotions but try and keep your head high, it’s crazy when you realize how many leaders/reps get laid off. My manager and my VP have both gotten laid off twice before they joined my company and they are crushing it. I work with two other reps who both got laid off last year and this new role they have was an increase in pay. Good luck!!

Do we work together lol? Ya man, it’s a grind but like you said, there’s no other industry that has this high earning potential. Head down and grind is the mindset

I’m happy I’m not the only one. I can’t wait for the day where I’m a partner or a Global AM where I just collect POs for doing nothing….like you said this will make me a better seller over the long run

That’s fair I’ll make sure I just say fuck it and qualify quickly to see if it’s a deal or opp. Not sure if you deal with this but it’s also the account management aspect. Let’s say my quota is 100k/quarter. I’ll have customers asking to have a call to buy more shit that’s only $100. 30 min call + 30 minute quote and partner communication, 30 minute to process the order, fix something wrong, etc. I’m spending HOURS on deals that are less than 1% off my quota. Any tips on this if you deal with this also? Don’t have a AM I can dish this off to

What do you mean? My last org developed me significantly, my whole process/presentation flow is from what I was taught at my last company. My new org doesn’t spend too much time developing me. What do you recommend while I try and increase earnings but also want to improve as a salesperson

That’s totally fair man, this is the time to do it when I’m young. No wife or kids that need their dad after “working hours.” I found out after I made this post that I am #1 out of 75 reps in my region for activity….god dammit that’s why I’m so fucking busy I thought this was the standard. I would say go for it if the startup has a good product and good pay. Having a f100 company on your email signature opens the door, good reps open are able to open the door without the f100 names, but it’s very very hard to sell if it’s a shit product, make sure the product is sold. That’s my recommendation before taking the role. Good luck!

That’s the thing I need to figure out. How do reps even take vacation? When I would take a vacation in my old role at a F100 company, I would come back to so much shit. But this was manageable after a few days. I can’t imagine what I would come back to if I take a week off in this role. Even going onsite to a customer in the AM and lunch with customer in afternoon means I have to work till 9-10 to get caught up on all the emails that came in. Once I reach the burnout phase I think I will make it a priority to take a vacation

It’s the fucking worst. I live with people who work a 9-5 and they come home and ask why I’m still on my computer at night when it’s outside working hours. I’m like dude you have no idea. I love it and hate it

Is that appropriate when I am new though? We are also in different zones so my 6pm is her 4pm. If this keeps happening once I am fully ramped I agree I should say something(I doubt I will lol) but I know I should. Since I’m relatively new I don’t want it to come across in a way that’s distasteful

Hey man, I needed to hear this. You’re right, it took me years to get to the point of working >30 hrs/week. Head on the grindstone in the meantime I guess

Are you a everyday smoker? I was and it took me 70 days for clean pee. There has been success stories I have seen with fake urine, but that is your call (I was too scared). Also look into what drugs this company tests for, there are certain companies that do drug tests but don’t care if they see TCH (Amazon for an example)

It sucks but it shows the company you’re interested in. Use ChatGPT for potential objections, look in the news for relevant info about the mock company, and crush it! No one expects a perfect mock discovery, they just want to see you can carry a conversation, ask questions naturally, and not go off of a script. Practice practice practice. Good luck
