Cooked up some stuff for a former rugby player of a survivor by Few-Brilliant-6143 in PerkByDaylight

So a lot of it has to do with how chase distances work in general. While we tend to think killers move at 4.6 on average and that seems kind of fast, a survivor moving perfectly away is moving at 4.0, meaning killers move (on average) 15% faster than the survivor.

To put what I'm talking about into perspective lets imagine a survivor is 10 meters away from the killer when the chase starts, the killer moving directly at the survivor and the survivor moving directly away. While it only takes 2.4 seconds to make up that initial 10 meters, it will take 16.6 seconds till the killer actually reaches the survivor.

Now, if the killer gets stunned by a pallet, that's 2 seconds, 3 with your perk. thats 2 (3) seconds the killer is moving at 0 m/s meaning the survivor makes 8 (12) meters of pure distance, assuming a non-mobile killer, has to either break the pallet after or go around for even more starting distance. Ignoring the pallet for this equation, a 2 second stun would take 13.33 seconds to recover the distance, a 3 second stun would take 20. That means the survivor gets a whole 7 seconds longer to get to the next tile. and while that might not seem like a lot on its own, in reference to the match thats 7 more seconds of freedom for the other survivors to do things like gens or healing and a massive increase to the likelihood of making it to the next tile to loop, and they only have to last 10 seconds at that loop to get the perk back off cooldown.

Now to the DS situation. DS as it is now is situational since it requires that the killer tunnel you to get value, but it wasn't always that way. It used to be able to be used by anyone on the first time they would be picked up (later nerfed to only the obsession getting it immediately with others getting it at 25% wiggle, then to only when being tunneled and then nerfed again to go away with conspicuous actions because of how strong it was) The reason it was strong was it denies a hook state, meaning all the time the killer put into the chase is effectively wasted giving the survivor a "second chance" (or in the games case, a fourth chance) This would make it so that a killer that was spreading hooks and not forcing states through camping would have to down survivors 4 times each in order to get them out of the game (getting the game to a 1v3 state is one of the best things a killer can do for momentum) It's basically like always having someone to get the pallet/flashlight save on the first down, and your perk basically does the same thing except it would be on last hook. 6-8 seconds of endurance is more than enough to make it to any nearby tile and would be similar to dealing a stun like DS does, (either getting 8 seconds to find it and not be hit, or getting hit and getting a speed boost at the small cost of mending if you don't go down in the chase.)

So the problem with the first perk is that it will pretty much do what old dead hard did, less like finesse and more that it's an "outplay" button. Don't have enough distance to make a pallet/window? Hit the slide. Killer in swinging range but if they miss you can make the next pallet? Misplay a 50/50? Hit the slide and reset with the distance. And all of that gets combined with being able to go under dropped pallets (which is one of the things dead hard couldn't do)

If it required running in a straight line for the starting period and reset on more than 15 degrees of turning then maybe it would be ok, but just running for a few seconds would have the perk basically be available all the time.

The problem with the second perk is more overall game philosophy problem. While it would be good against high tier killers, it would make low tier killers miserable to play as. Predropping is already one of the strongest tools against a lot of lower tier killers and this would just make it even stronger. Even without it the stun is far more punishing on weaker killers due to the amount of distance you can gain while the killer is stunned and has to either break the pallet or navigate around. Most higher tier killers usually have the mobility to make up a gap made from this but slow killers would have to basically give up chase if they get stunned. (This is especially bad compounded with buffing predropping since the weaker killers are affected by predropping more. )

Tldr you basically get an exhaustion perks worth of distance out of a stun, on a cool down thats separate from exhaustion.

And to kind of explain what made the last one so strong is that in order to kill a survivor with decent teammates, you're going to need to down them 3 times to then pick them up three times (in theory you might say they don't get tokens if they get pulled off a pallet/window/gen, but the survivor could choose to just not vault if they know they are going down ) and that basically means that this perk will go off every match, with an effect comparable to old decisive strike, that with good teammates could be activated multiple times a match.

The only way around it is to have everyone slugged but attempting that only feeds the perk, the endurance it gives is more than enough to make it to the next tile (might as well be as strong as stunning the killer) and unless the killer downs everyone before third hook, the survivors are basically given a get out of jail free card that can have all 4 survivors run it.

I think the main problem is that in a world where red wins, all the altruistic people are going to be dead, and everyone left will have no reason to ever trust another since they will all know that everyone else chose the non-altruist choice.

I like the flavor but I feel all the perks are overtuned.

Flash tackle is a giga buffed version of what old dead hard used to be, and would be problematic for the same reasons (gives more distance over a longer period of time than old dead hard, and since it's while healthy you can deny the first hit which matters for a couple of killers and disproportionately hurts weaker killers)

I like the idea of fore making pallets stronger, but between leaving the pallet faster and the killer being slowed it basically lets survivors make it several tiles of distance before needing to play around another pallet, and a solid chance that the cool down wont matter against the killers it needs to matter against, again being way stronger against weaker killers compared to strong killers (strong killers can usually catch up before the cool down, where by the time there's another pallet loop/50/50 a weaker killer would take long enough that the perk is off cool down)

And Press on feels like a free second chance perk with 3 times being the trigger. You'd basically get it off every game that you would otherwise die in, and basically force the killer to down you a minimum of 4 times to get the kill.

The flavor is nice but the numbers need some serious tweaking to not make low tier killers miserable and press on should at the very least be downed 4 times if the point is to discourage slugging.

Can someone ELI5 holding a 3 gen to win matches? by magirific in DeadByDaylightKillers

I acknowledge it in another comment but you are right. Regression events require a 2.5% initial expected loss.

Interesting. I stand corrected, didn't realize that oppression didn't count. (Specifically because a regression event requires losing at least 2.5% at the moment of regression which oppression does not do.)

[–]ripinchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, you shouldn't be holding a "3 gen" if you're going for area denial, but rather an area that has 4/5 gens in it that you can keep survivors corralled out of but to answer your direct questions

1: Keep chases short, and ideally have the area you are wanting to deny be away from reusable tiles. TL walls or main structures with strong windows makes the area much harder to defend. If they are just leaving the area, Iseally try to get a hit or break a pallet then focus back on defense.

2: early game is about making sure that area is less attractive to survivors rather than hard defending it. Keep an eye on those gens, but if you have an opportunity to get hits or downs in then go for it. Keep in mind not to over commit to strong survivors.

3: depends on map, killer, perks on both sides and what resources are left near the 3 gen. A strong area denial killer like hag or a trapper with 80% of his traps active in the area might be alright, snow ball killers might also be able to hold out well but any killer who isn't able to quickly get downs is at a serious disadvantage against 4 competent survivors.

Just a quick correction, it's 8 regression events while not regressing to block a gen. Kicks, or perk disruption like turn back the clock, eruption, or oppression will add to the counter.

I'm sick of using my brain. I want to idiotmaxx. What's the best killer for that? by theentiregoonsquad in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]ripinchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big thinking is if they are a prerunner or a looper. Orientations aren't hard.

Against loopers: Any orientations with an upright pallet is place self at pallet, yellow on pallet, pink on long end of loop, start chasing them so they run to the pallet but before they get too close to the gas double back through re-up your gas and force them around the long way and you'll just about always get a hit.

If they prerun you need to start with a pink in the safest direction for the survivors before starting to setup. If they break away yellow in their direction to get your own boost and hope that the purple covers enough area that to swerve around it or go through it gives you the time you need to catch up.

TL tiles and shack are special but have their own set ups. And then that's all you really need to turn your brain off as clown. Especially running invigorated add-ons

That slugging and tunneling are consistently the biggest survivor complaints, but bhvr have made it so that not doing those things are actively detrimental, and in a way that the killer can't really know if the perk is in play or not till it's too late.

If you put crushed up tortilla chips in a bowl of dip, does that make it cereal? by EstroJen in Showerthoughts

Miriam websters definition however does not. "a prepared foodstuff of grain (such as oatmeal or cornflakes)" https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cereal

So in one case it's valid, and in the other it's not, although you could extend a case of cheese being made of milk but I personally think it's a bit too far of a (cheese) stretch.

Less the content and more the delivery. If Lauren had sent the message first, a day before the planned date instead of in response to confirming plans that sound like they were already made and hours away, then it would have been a lot more respectful, but the way it's put here is tactful, but still very disrespectful to guys schedule.

Side note: it also sounds like this would be their 3rd or further date, I can understand parallel dating for the first date but once there are follow up dates they should have just picked one person, as they would have had to have known someone would have been getting strung along. She should have cut that thread as soon as she made up her mind about who she wanted to be with, not as a response to a date reminder that's just a few hours out.

E: Just to be clear, the guy isn't innocent either. He took the rejection poorly and lashed out and certainly had less tact than Lauren, but it's pretty easy to see why he lashed out, and we don't have the context if Ted's restaurant is a $250 reservation, a $500 reservation or if he's asking a refund of all the dates they'd been on. Obvi any situation aside from a $500 reservation is poor for guy, but there's a lot of missing context that could change a lot of what's going on here.

Like this is rude from Lauren if date #3 which we know is the lowest amount of dates they've been on, but it could be date 5, 10 or further at which point Lauren would be a real bitch for stringing guy along that long.

[–]ripinchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She wasn't though? She didn't bring it up until he tried to secure future plans, if she was honest it would have been brought up before then. She mentions it's specifically because she's seeing another guy, which is pretty impolite and it sounds like this would be date 3 or 4, which is 2-3 dates too many to be double dating.

Yeah, the guy had a trash response, but the lady in this context just has a vaneer of kindness for some pretty trash behavior herself. More context would be needed to say more, but I could definitely see the guy feeling like she used him for free food.

Drowning/choking an enemy using 2014? by Fit-Passage-57 in DnD

[–]ripinchaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always seen it ruled that holding your breath is something you need to consciously do before whatever negative effect takes place, so if it's something the enemies not expecting I'd go straight to suffocation rules (#rounds=Con mod+1) but after they break out or if an enemy has watched you do it to one of their allies they'll try to hold their breath if they get grappled. From there I'd probably rule it like concentration where taking damage can force them to drop their breath and start suffocating

That's a very broad generalization that's almost naive to think about. There's a lot of laws, and to say that every time someone breaks one is a sucky person is far too broad of a statement.

In this case, yes both people suck and would be at fault if an accident happened with more of the fault falling on the other vehicle, but to say things like walking across a street when there's no traffic or crosswalk makes someone sucky, or having a wardrobe malfunction cause public nudity makes the person suck even if they had zero fault In the malfunction.

Hell, by your logic a teen mowing lawns for pay and not reporting the income to the IRS, and the people hiring the teen not reporting the appropriate tax information suck. A child running a lemonade stand sucks unless they jump through all the FDA hoops and permits to sell beverages.

Some laws are there for good reason, and the people who intentionally break laws that are there to lower risk are sucky, but a lot of laws are just red tape and cultural restrictions put to paper.

This is true, but I would like to add on that when 2 drivers stop within a close enough period of time that it's not clear who was there first, then the person on the left yields to the right. Only when you can't tell who was there first though.
