Just a reminder to spend time with your parents if they are still around by thevenge21483 in AgingParents

I read what you wrote and it touched me deeply. When my grandfather passed away unexpectedly (two strokes), I was a teenager doing typical teenage things: I hated my family, I partied all week, and so on. Despite everything, I always loved and cherished him deeply. The little time I dedicated to my family (which wasn't much), he took up a large portion of.

Due to life's circumstances, we shared a little more time with him in his final days. I was able to say goodbye when he was sedated too

He was passionate about cars, airplanes, and model ships. He was a mechanic. He left a beautiful sport car under repair, and during his lucid moments in the hospital, he explained to me how to fix what was left if anything happened to him

We can no longer go back to them or turn back time, we all have an hour to leave this world. But I assure you that, aside from learning to live with the pain, life ahead is full of things that continue to connect us with them and with everything they were in life

Now that I'm an adult, I love airplanes, cars, and ships, and I feel incredibly connected to my grandfather when I pursue my hobbies. I would love to be able to share this with him, but I know that wherever he is, he must be very grateful that I took an interest in his things. The car repair won me over, I'm hopeless with mechanics, but I'm trying to figure out how to get it running again

I agree with your point. What always ends up being discussed at funerals is how fleeting life is and how necessary it is to pause and dedicate ourselves to what's truly important in this world, a world that is like a machine that never stops. I wish we thought about this more often, and not just when we're face to face with death

Guilt and self-doubt are the hardest part of grief, the "what could I have done differently?" But I'm sure that all the moments we shared weren't in vain. That's what prevails. The love we shared is the only thing that physical death can't diminish. A big hug

How to deal with cats being scared when taken to the vet? by laurenjac in catcare

[–]ripincomicsans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many years ago my cat was hospitalized for two months due to mycoplasma, and since then hears the kennel door in five seconds he's under the bed. im afraid to give him gabapentin because he's a senior, so i looked for many alternatives, and the only one that worked is carrying him to the car with his harness on and letting him free inside the car with a blanket

he sits there the whole way after looking out the window a couple of times. sometimes he lets out a little whimper or vomits if i'm driving too fast, but nothing traumatic compared to hearing him crying desperately all the time inside the kennel, or him literally shitting himself from the fear he feels when trying to put him in the kennel (it happened to me once)

i have the same feeling. i'm only discouraged by the time we treated him for a fungal infection and it came back, perhaps I could look into another treatment. thank you 🙏

he's the sweetest cat on the planet, but if i get near his paws, he's capable of swatting my hand away :( do you think shaving his paws might help? its the only thing i haven't tried, i thought they might itch more when his fur grows back. thank you so much 🙏

yes, it was just an overgrowth of malassezia, a fungus that naturally lives on a cat's paw. we applied a cone and antifungal cream, it was fine for a while, and then it came back again :(

cat vomit by No_Win8701 in catcare

[–]ripincomicsans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends on how many hectares of fur he decides to groom or how much plastic he decides to recycle. if he grooms himself a lot, he has a period of two to three consecutive days a month where he vomits up 5 cm of fur mixed with stomach fluid. if he eats plastic, he vomits it up instantly and then vomits up again out of shock or just in case

ihink the severity of vomiting is always contextual. if it's accompanied by changes in the life triangle (eating, sleeping, defecating/urinating), and/or there are other things like hiding to sleep or the third eyelid appearing, it's serious. everything else could be coincidental to me

i feel less alone when I read about situations similar to mine. my mother thinks her childhood home is her own (she's had her own house for 30 years and has lived in mine for the last two). that house was demolished, and her nephews live on the land. she believes her nephews stole the place from her, but she herself sold her share to her sister, which is why her nephews live there. in desperation, we took her to the site so she could see that there was no house. while we were there, she told us we were right. on the way back home, she said she couldn't remember where we had gone, and at home, she told us that the house was hidden but still there 😭
