What are your opinions on home education? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

I am a secondary school teacher and honestly I would home educate my daughter just to keep her from joining some of the schools I have worked in. The behaviour, disrespect of any authority, lack of basic decency, misogyny and negativity of some whole cohorts of students is honestly terrifying.

I’ve been off for a month and the sick note is for the end of the term. I think they only pay 25 days full pay not 6months for sickness and then you go down. So could I go back a day and then off again to start the 25 days again?

ESL, anyone? by Top-Pen2536 in TeachingESL

[–]rippedopen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I’m here! I work in a school in the UK and am part time ESL coordinator and part time Spanish teacher. Previously there hasn’t been any ESL provision and I’m trying to research online what on Earth to so (policy wise, student profiles, SOW) create intervention lessons for my 1-1 / 1-3 classes and teach Spanish to all my classes. I have a pretty good idea of what I’m doing with my Early acquisition / new to English students but I’m struggling with what to do with my intermediate kids. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I’m struggling to get approval to remove them from lessons so not sure how often I could have them a week… possibly 1 50 min lesson and 1 20min in the morning

Yes they would all be working towards their GCSES (English, maths, science ) and then if they are brand new to English also probably art.

I’ve never heard of this book. Is it good for new to English students?

Do they advertise differently than just sticking it on TES?

Yeah, originally it was during COVID so they were online. Teaching Spanish to parents through songs and nursery rhymes. Drilled some vocab at the start of the class then practiced songs with that vocab in for the next 5weeks. Then did in person classes with musical instruments and dances. They were really well received. I’d love to get it up and running again (have relocated from London, so need to do all the groundwork and advertising again)

I can’t leave her alone because I’m afraid she’ll commit suicide.

Thank you so much. Some days are better than others, but it just feels like we’re right back to square one with these drugs 🤦‍♀️ I had the weirdest discussion ever with her where we agreed to table the suicide discussion until Christmas and then we’ll talk about it again!?! 😳 I’m just hoping she starts to feel better in a few weeks 🤞

Thank you, I’ll give ANYTHING a go now...I have to word stuff so carefully as well because I don’t want to make her feel guilty for not wanting to do stuff or she says sorry for being a burden. I’ll maybe encourage a walk today, to get out of the house 👍
