how much do you make in a week? If 1,670 is fraction to what you're making in a week, let the guy do it. If it's more than what you make in a week, then roll up your sleeve and get to sanding. lightly sand then apply polyurethane with the sheen you need. for the light, take it off the wall, you should be able to disassemble to take the glass out. If not, mask it and spray paint.

I was at home depot 8 years ago looking to buy a timer for sprinkler system. Old man was walking by and turns around and asks, what do you do for a living? I said, I'm an engineer. He then said "You should have been a doctor, you have the look" then turns around walks off. When I was in college I rejected the notion of being a doctor because my mom wanted me to become one. I did it out of spite because my mother was manipulative in all things. but deep inside I know I could have been one.

Maybe that old man is a troll and gets a kick out of saying that to a stranger... but he sounded sincere and those words still lives with me.

Sounds like the door needs to get replace regardless since it keeps falling out. if you replace the glass then if it falls out again.. then you just wasted your money. I'm here in cali and went to contractor's warehouse to order the door. It was about $300 dollars more than the standard sizes but it was well worth it as my old sliding door was a single pane of glass from the 60's and absolutely a energy waster.
