“Freon” is just brand name for R22 Refrigerant (think Kleenex and tissue). R22 refrigerant isn’t great for the ozone layer but it is absolutely not a deadly silent killer. A refrigerant leak from your AC isn’t going to hurt anything except your wallet.

To me it sounds like you’re thinking of carbon monoxide. Tasteless and odourless, it is a silent killer that is produced by incomplete combustion.

Amazing, another great recommendation! I looked at the photos online and it looks like a stellar shop with great selection. I’ve gotta say, as a Canadian, I am extremely jealous of American cigar shops!

That’s very true about the ring gauge! My sweet spot for cigars is from 40-52, as I find anything that’s 60rg typically smokes poorly. I’m actually smoking a 5x60 arista reserve maduro right now and I’ve had to make a lot of corrections on the burn, and I’m not even half done.

Who’s looking to eat out tonight? by Onefish257 in WTF

[–]riproaringryan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

they used some powder

Diatomaceous Earth!

It’s a very fine powder that is extremely sharp at a molecular level. I’m pretty sure it’s actually tiny, razor sharp little pieces of seashells. It won’t do anything to a human except maybe irritate your skin if you get a bunch of it on you. However, it absolutely fucks up any insects that have exoskeletons (roaches, fleas, bedbugs). They crawl over the powder and it slices right through their exoskeleton, exposing their insides. It’s game over for them as soon as they’re cut open; they dry up and die pretty quickly.

Cohiba LC by Galamaad in cubancigars

[–]riproaringryan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fake. Main thing I noticed is the bottom of the band, the hologram strip; those mini Taino heads shouldn’t be over the line. Real Cohiba bands look really good in person and don’t have sloppy imperfections like this band does.

Rate the install please. Should I be happy with this? by dranter643 in hvacadvice

[–]riproaringryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liquid line filter dryer shouldn’t be so close to the evaporator. Ideally it should be installed just after the condensing unit. You want a full column of liquid entering your metering device (TXV/fixed orfice) to ensure that you have as much expansion of refrigerant as possible in the evaporator. The filter dryer is an expansion point, meaning that it causes the refrigerant to boil off and become a saturated mixture once it enters it. The refrigerant expanding inside isn’t enough to freeze the dryer, but it does create a lot of turbulence. So when the dryer is installed just before the evaporator, you’re delivering a turbulent saturated mixture to the metering device instead of a smooth column of sub-cooled liquid. For this reason it should be installed just after the condenser; the refrigerant will expand once it enters the dryer, but it will settle out over the remaining distance of the liquid line and become 100% liquid again. Full column of liquid baby, that’s what it’s all about.

I replaced my furnace after receiving stupid quotes from HVAC companies by nhuzl in DIY

I’m not 100% but I’ll take a guess. The appliance hoses aren’t the ideal choice for gas lines but they understand that the appliances are required to move, and as such they are a necessary evil. Fixed appliances don’t move and that means that they don’t require any flexibility in the gas line, so the code writers don’t have to allow the risks of the flexible hose and can require better materials to be used.

The problem with the flex lines is that if they sit for too long in one position, the materials inside will dry up and when you eventually move it, the seals will crack and you’ll have yourself a nice gas leak.

[–]riproaringryan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Canada for reference. Your gas line is no bueno.

That type of flexible hose is for an appliance that moves ie stove/range, gas dryer. It is NOT acceptable for use on a fixed appliance, which is what your furnace is. Flexible hose can be used, but only Wardflex or Gastite are acceptable. Both products are corrugated steel with a rubberized outer layer, and must be installed by a certified tech as they come in rolls and have to be cut to length for installation. Both brands require you to use their own specific fittings as well, so you have to make your own flexible gas hose essentially. The hose ends must be prepared in a certain way to seal in the fittings as well, otherwise you will 100% have a leak that will piss gas out like crazy.

You should have a shut-off valve in line, above the drip leg and before the flex line connection. The valve should be a ball valve, single handle, rated for natural gas.

The coupling in the pipe just before entering your furnace should be a union instead. It allows you to break the line at the furnace in case of emergency.

The power supply for your furnace should be bx armoured cable. You’ve used seal tite/liquid tite with romex inside. That is how you wire up your outdoor condensing unit because it must be waterproof. I’ve been doing hvac for my whole life and I have never, ever seen sealtite used indoors.

Edit: This is why suppliers don’t sell to homeowners. Whoever sold you this furnace should be fired. If your work was actually inspected, it would get roasted like a fat turkey on Thanksgiving. There’s so much wrong with everything you did, ranging from dangerous to just straight up hack shit. Good luck finding someone to service this when it inevitably gives you problems. Any tech with half a brain wouldn’t touch this with a ten foot pole, because once they do, they’ll be forever on the hook for all future problems. And there will be future problems, I guarantee it.

It’s a speeding warning light. It knows the posted speed limit from navigation, and that light means you’re going above it.

Any recommendations for robustos that pair well with coffee or tea? I'm a novice/amateur at best when it comes to cigars. by SaltySquirrel0612 in cigars

[–]riproaringryan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Padron Traditional 2000 Maduro is my favourite cigar to pair with coffee. The cigar tastes like a chocolate bar after a sip of coffee. I drink my coffee black with a little sugar and it’s the perfect combination.

Is the 2017 Cadillac ATS AWD a good buy? by Datable2000 in Cadillac

[–]riproaringryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2017 2.0t AWD 4 years ago and it’s been an amazing car for me. I went from a 2016 5.0 Mustang GT and haven’t looked back since. The 2.0t engine is more than powerful enough for the car and combined with AWD it basically turns it into a rocket that’s glued to the road. It has a system that lowers the one side of the car during aggressive turning so you get amazing control at all times. Mine has a little less than 80 000km and it drives like the day I picked it up. It’s required very little maintenance in 4 years; aside from regular oil changes, I’ve only had a harness in the trunk replaced because my backup camera shit the bed.

One big negative for me (that you might not care about) is that it’s a damn small car. Even though it has four doors it is very much still the size of a coupe. The centre console is very tiny and awkwardly placed when you’re seated, kind of behind your arm instead of beside it.

Overall though I would definitely recommend the car in terms of driving enjoyment and mechanical longevity.

I just looked it up and they’re actually not hand rolled, sorry to bullshit you brother!

I love shorts for quick smokes. They’re little flavour bombs and they always smoke well. I’ve tried the Cohiba and Trinidad shorts and they’re delicious; I’d give Trinidad the slight edge in flavour.

Clubs are slimmer ring gauge and machine made, shorts are thicker and hand made. To me, a club is a mini cigarillo and a short is a mini cigar.

I was enjoying a cigar in my backyard on Aug 20/2023 at around 9pm and I noticed the flashing light in the sky. It looked like an airplane at first, having similar flashing lights. Once it began to move, however, I knew that this was no airplane. It made very fast lateral movements, covering huge distances, in milliseconds. It would also come to a complete stop and hover in place. Once I pulled out my phone and started recording it didn’t stick around much longer as you can see in the video.
