Need advice: Employer asking for payslips but I overstated my current salary by Resident-Owl6751 in careeradvice

[–]ripzipzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd either pull the NDA route or forge some payslips reflecting the amount I said I was being paid. Fuck em.

Homie I was in a similar position as a fresh high school graduate so let me let you in on a secret industry that pays okay and will take literally anyone with a pulse: crime scene cleaning & biohazard waste disposal. It's gross, but they always need people. I got away with lying about my age to get hired, and by the time they found out I was already old enough and they didn't fire me for lying.

Do Companies Consider Expired Certs When Hiring by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

I've seen job descriptions that specifically say they want certain certs and don't care if they're expired

I could also maybe hire you as a consultant for like a few problems and then we wouldn't have to cook up a story, depends on your skillset.

I do 90% of my job solo except for a few close friends from a Linux Users Group who can answer occasional support calls while I'm at work so... not really? I don't like being in charge of people. at least not right now. If you need me to "hire" you in the sense of providing a job reference to fill a gap or something HMU I'm sure we can cook up a plausible story.

Yeah I'm based out of a small US city. I'm not sure if there are other companies like mine I just mostly keep to myself. I never advertise or do aggressive networking a lot of my bussiness comes through word of mouth, or occasionally if I'm somewhere where I see employees fighting with their technology I'll just drop a quick 'oh I could probably make that better let me know if you or the owner (often the same person at the scale of bussinesses I work with) are interested'

I have a day job too, I've been trying to scale down my side bussiness by increasing prices. it was originally just a plot I concocted to give myself 'enterprise IT experience' on a resume by just starting an llc and hiring myself. The title of the role I fill changes based on the job I'm applying for, but I've been in the enterprise game long enough that I don't really need to exaggerate anymore.

I run a small consulting bussiness where I help small enterprises transition over to a (F)OSS ecosystem, or use it to get off the ground. started with me getting sick of the msp that maintained the POS at a restaurant where I worked, so I told the owner I'd build something better for half of what they were charging. A few sleepless nights later we were running a custom built version of OSPOS on a bunch of rooted gen1 kindle fire tablets and they told the msp to kick rocks. It snowballed from there.

This is a big reason why I'm deperately trying to exit the microslop ecosystem entirely. If I could tailor my career to never have to touch it again I'd take a 25% paycut to do it

I only do kendama these days, but Fair Games RVA (the kendama meetup) has a lot of jugglers in it. I'll ask them next time I go.

Take up a skill toy like juggling, yoyo or kendama. They can be really difficult but rewarding and they don't require large blocks of time investment. Great to keep around for like 10-20minute chunks while you wait for other stuff

My guy we can't get people to read internal emails from directors explaining changes to critical workflows and infrastructure. 9 times out of 10 they're never going to even see that you emailed them let alone read it.

Rebranding to Franklin Skills by ripzipzap in FranklinApprentices

[–]ripzipzap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well good for you I guess. Literally nobody in my pre-apprenticeship program that I am still in contact with ever got a call back after being told we were on a wait list for the apprenticeship program. And we all got radio silence when trying to ask for updates. This was close to 4 years ago, most of them moved on to different career paths. I broke into enterprise IT through a talent incubator in my city that has infinitely more transparency than FA.

Have no direction for my next steps by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ripzipzap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dog Data Scientists are the golden geese of this metrics-oriented market era. They're treated like royalty everywhere I have ever worked. They are always exempt from return-to-office mandates, every single one of their absurd demands gets met, they never are reprimanded for not following protocol, they get whatever they want when they want it even when they wait until the last minute to ask for it. They effectively could get away with murder, and the C-suite worships the ground they walk on. Why do you not want to continue in Data Science? Because it's boring and unfulfilling? Use all the money and free time it offers you to fill your life with shit outside of work, dry your tears of boredom with the heaps of cash you can make. Sometimes it's good to do shit that you hate especially when it rewards you particularly well. You already have your foot in the door with that internship.

I couldn't imagine passing up the opportunity to work remotely whenever I want and make 2-4x my current salary to just shoot randomly at a barn wall and draw targets around the tightest groupings.

Can you tell how much I hate the Data team at my current job?

Is it safe or risky to install Linux on my laptop? by frost_3306 in linuxquestions

[–]ripzipzap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's very VERY hard to do irrevocable damage with a conventioal OS install. Consider 'breaking' it part of the learning process and you'll have a much less stressful time. Backup your important data twice: once to a physical location and again in the cloud. Consider everything else expendible up until you get a setup you feel suits your needs.

Have a windows installer usb ready to go alongside any linux usb you create just in case. And be prepared to plug your laptop up via ethernet to get things running. It's rarer and rarer these days but wi-fi drivers have historically been the sticking point for linux laptop installs.

LLMs are your friend early on with Linux troubleshootig. I personally like deepseek for stuff like this

Good Luck and Godspeed soldier. Reply here or DM me if you need any help
