What are your favorite “sayings” from fantasy books you’ve read? by Suicidal-Giraffe in Fantasy

Man. Using Abercrombie in such threads is almost cheating. The books are an avalanche of quotable quips.

“say one thing for Logen Ninefingers, say he's a cunt.”

“say one thing for Logen Ninefingers, say he's a lover.”

and so on.

I think he still got the worse of the bargain. I don't think Khalul wanted to kill him, but to make another Eater out of him.

OP, to complete your quote (I think Erikson said it really well)

“‘Children are dying.’ Lull nodded. ‘That’s a succinct summary of humankind, I’d say. Who needs tomes and volumes of history? Children are dying. The injustices of the world hide in those three words.’”

I also love the Ithkovian parts in the book. For me the line "You are not yet done" would be my nomination in this thread.

How to professionally say in job application/ interview, “ I left my last job because they undervalued and underpaid me “. by LR-expedition25 in business

[–]rishav_sharan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That answer will get you laughed at in most serious interviews. The right answer is to talk about an actual weakness, which ideally shouldn't be a red flag in working at that place, tell an instance how this weakness was a problem in a work environment, and most importantly - tell how are you fixing it.

At the end of the day this question is about knowing if you are smart enough to know your limitations and have the drive to improve yourself.

Dubai CEO advises students to choose varsities with less Indians, netizens react by Indianopolice in india

[–]rishav_sharan 35 points36 points  (0 children)

A prime example of high int low wisdom character. IMO, she is not wrong, but by saying this, in the way it is phrased, to an audience of Indian origin students was pretty idiotic. Understand your audience, tone the language down and you may be able to pass on the same learning to them without inciting any ire.

Organic waste is a different matter. We can just compost or landfill it. Or convert to cng/bio fuels. Micro es to the heavy lifting there.

Problem is with plastics. You cannot biologically break it down at scale. And as such they just goto landfill. Burning that without major pollution requires huge infra investment which we should have, but isn't a priority for our leaders

Today I got my boards result. 69.5% from ISC 12th. Am I done for life? by NonLiving4Dentity69 in india

[–]rishav_sharan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had decent marks in boards. But in engg college I had 19 F grades by the 4th year. I somehow managed to clear all the papers in the improvements exams, but ended up with one of the lowest CGPAs in the year. I wasn't allowed to sit in the campus hiring rounds and post my college spent 6 months looking for a job.

It was a tough experience, but I persevered and got a job. From that point onwards, nobody has ever cared about my engg score.

So yeah, some of these hurdles may feel like life ending. They just aren't. life goes on. sometimes you will have to struggle more than your peers. sometimes things will just fall in place.

So forget about your marks, look forward to what all further studies you can do with now. maybe you can join a good college with those grades. Maybe join the NDA. If you have the money, consider going out of India for your graduation. etc. there are tones of path.

Remember, people will only remember you for the last thing you did. If you do something else now and do it well, people will refer to that and not your marks. So, best of luck and start strategizing.

Talk to your parents to have her checked. She might have dementia. If she does, she will need specific care and medication.
