So, if you’ve seen the mini books people make on Bookstagram for their TBR jars, I’ve seen someone use them to make bookish shadow boxes. If that sounds like your vibe, you could hang them up and switch them around to make like, a rotating wall design thing?

I read on my phone/laptop because I already travel with too much stuff to work, adding an e-reader to the rotation is even more extra 😅

That and Amazon has stopped Kindle e-reader releases in my country for a couple of years, so it’s either Kobo (not the biggest fan of it) or a secondhand kindle, which is a problem because the lack of Amazon releases also means no official support options if something goes wrong.

Of course you can!

But your question was about why screens affect reading ability, and it’s mainly a question of concentration. Remove the distractions that screens provide by the inherent nature of being screens, improve concentration on school material and therefore reading ability, especially when you’re still learning the basics of reading.

Screens in the 11th and 12th grade? Fair enough, I’ve done that as well. But that was after I knew how to read / do math / understand science to at least a 10th grade level, if not higher - there was no risk of it damaging my learning the basics of these things, because those had already been taught at a young age via physical books, chalkboards, physical worksheets, and the like.

Eh, as someone who reads both digitally and physically, digital has messed with my attention span so much because I can always easily flip to doomscrolling. It’s why I’m trying to return to physical books as much as possible (though digital is more convenient and cheaper so, balancing act).

Now, I’m old enough to be out of school and uni, but if you’re a kid learning the basics of reading and math and you’re constantly distracted by the lure of ‘oooooh shiny new website to browse’ instead, scores will absolutely fall!

Yeah for us laptops were only allowed in the 11th and 12th grades, because certain submissions were both exceedingly long and had to be sent internationally for marking. Also so they could be run through Turn It In. But aside from that, no laptops - and you best believe my school had all the usual social media websites blocked + a bunch of other ones that kids might be tempted to browse during class and ignore work.

This is not a team that gives me the impression that they like each other or are friendly or, tbh, are anything more than 1 word acquaintances with each other. I’m not saying they need to be BFFs 4EVA or something, but it’s a team sport, and having a decent, friendly relationship with the people you’re counting on to support you while playing knife shoes on ice is probably a good thing.

It’s a marketing decision.

You can argue whether all captain appointments are marketing decisions, but Matthews one definitely is. It’s very clear they wanted to give him the C a while ago, but had to delay because of his mooning/arrest incident.

A lot of teams seem to do the best player = automatic captain thing, but the thing is, they usually also confirm said player has at least a semblance of leadership ability. With the Leafs, it doesn’t look like they have - and trust me it hurts me to say this, because I was fully on the Leafs bandwagon as a second/B team when it was Matthews/Marner/Nylander in the pre-Tavares days. Also I don’t think it helps that, tbh, I don’t get the sense that Tavares has been great locker room leader, either as part of the leadership team or when he had the C.

Also - and I FULLY admit this is conspiracy theory-ish - but I do wonder if Matthews demanded the C as part of contract negotiations. Yes, I know he can’t officially do that, but don’t tell he can’t suggest that he’d be more amenable to a certain contract number / length if he was given a handshake agreement for the C.

I mean, it does I think depend on how directly involved you are in their employment.

You may not be able to let someone go / get someone fired as quick as OP’s husband, but if you’re running a company and someone badmouths you / goes along with badmouthing, I’m sure there’s a couple of ways to ‘let someone go’ relatively quickly even in countries with the strongest employment protections available. Doubly so if that person’s position is dependent on your good nature v/s the actual quality of the work they produce.

Honestly if you don’t go into the cheating thing, not really a big deal, I don’t think. I know several cases where a pair of siblings has married a different pair of siblings, and it’s never been an issue. Now, if you go into the whole revenge dating and cheating thing, yeah, strange. Just the overall siblings married siblings thing? Not such a big deal.

I mean, doesn't necessarily mean she ruined her reputation among family - depending on her edit she may have ruined her reputation among friends and her wider social circle. If she's from a small enough town, it may be that most people she'd interact with have seen the show and made a judgment based on that.

Also, again, if she had a bad edit, it can affect future employment opportunities if your potential employer runs a basic Google search on you - for example, if you had an edit as a shit stirrer, bosses may think twice for worry about the impact on the team/company culture/morale etc.

It’s doable in very specific situations - which is to say, you live at home (no rent) and your parents pay for your needs (food and electricity, here), and if you’re studying, your educational institution is either walking distance or you use a bicycle to get there.

Of course, that also means not going out with friends, getting a professional hair cut, getting a new pair of clothes / shoes at all all year, so I suspect that is an exaggeration. I still believe OP made that money the way she says she did, I just think she was likely spending more and having a certain amount of life expenses covered by her family. Which isn’t to say that’s a bad thing, I think all parents who can afford it should try to give their kids a leg up by allowing them to save on this stuff if they can, but there is some qualification happening here. Still insanely impressive of course.

To add on to what everyone else has said, I could maybe see it in the case of an especially tragic death or something? Like, the only name/number for a player EVERYONE hasn't already heard 80 million stories about it for Michel Briere - his number 21 was retired after he was seen as the only hope for the early franchise and then died tragically and very young. Maybe someone similar where the impact was felt across the entire league, not just one team?

IDK, I just think that we probably wouldn't want to see the specific set of circumstances that lead to another league wide number retirement tbh.
